With the weather turning my mind is turning to slippers. Why are they called slippers? Why do they make those ones without backs that fall off your feet at inopportune moments? What’s your favourite kind of slippers? Do you own slippers? What are your slippers like? Talk to me about all things slippers.

They are wonderful invention and something I love about getting into home. There are some poor designs . Moccasin types can be good, letting you adjust the looseness

I tend to go for moccasin style. Traditional slippers don't appeal, the backlessones that fall off my feet drive me crazy, but I hate hate cold feet, and I'm too lazy to change my footwear if I need to nip outside... so moccasins are like indoor shoes, keep my feet warm and cozy, but will also let me step outside if I have to without soaking up every puddle I don't realise I'm stepping in

Might keep an eye on this for slipper reviews . My mind hasn’t turned to the slipper as such but it’s reminded that I am currently the owner of a solitary serviceable slipper ! Its matching slipper can no longer be classed as a slipper , it’s the artist formerly known as slipper since my two dogs decided to have an ownership dispute over said slipper ! It now resides a shadow of its former self in the dog toy basket . Hopping isn’t ideal in a slipper .

I have numerous pairs. Keep one set downstairs, one pair upstairs, and a further pair in my garden office (also two brand new pairs in a cupboard). I have a mother in law who buys me a set each birthday. This must stop. One can have too many pairs.

You made me curious, Mrs TMN...

"The recorded history of slippers can be traced back to the 12th century. In the West, the record can only be traced to 1478. The English word "slippers" (sclyppers) occurs from about 1478. English-speakers formerly also used the related term "pantofles" (from French pantoufle)."

I remember when Afghan slipper-socks were a thing. Some women looked quite ravishable in them (and nothing else). I guess they've been Talibanned now.

I wear slip on type fabric shoes in the house instead of slippers.

I sometimes walk outside in them which makes me wonder why I wear them in the first place. 🤷‍♀️

That’s odd. If memory serves, slippers were actually invented in 1573 by Angus McSlipper of the McSlipper clan. The sole was a flatfish (hence sole) and the top was wool gathered from spiky hedgerows bordering sheep fields. The wool was secured to the fish using thread made of Angus’s hair. They were very slippery, hence the name. But Angus failed to patent his invention and has since been overlooked in the recorded history of the slipper. Look it up, the real origin story is all there on justiceformcslippersslipperyslippers dot com.

I'm an all day slipper wearer and of the opinion that you can't beat M&S slippers. Nice full back ones, sturdy soles for nipping the bins out.

Rubbishy spa type slippers for wandering around clubs, bright white so you don't lose them in the dark.

Suffice to say the results returned were not quite what I expected, but did give me a bit of a giggle... If you do the same let me know what you got returned and we can see if the algorithms have improved!

They're a kind of sandal favoured in the Balearic Islands and similar places.
