German should be easy for English speakers I think. I lived in Berlin for 12 months and I picked up the language pretty easy

Latin, as it would be useful academically and would also give me a huge advantage in picking up half a dozen different languages

I am lucky already to have Spanish as my first language.

I’d love to speak Mandarin, but realistically, Italian is a language that I stand a good chance to learn to a good standard.

Definitely Spanish. I tried to learn it for a couple of months using Duolingo, but I found it very repetitive and boring (the app not the language)

Yeah I agree. I wasn't a fan of it. What helped me was listening to foreign movies

I'd love to be bilingual and be able to speak many languages. For me Italian (as it's native to me on my dad's side) so I would like to learn it or the part where that family side comes from. Spanish. Russian and German. I love to be able to speak a language that isn't no longer used any more.

I lived in France for 3yrs working for a German company (I can get by if I need to in German after studying it for 4yrs at school and working in Hamburg for 6 months) and all I picked up was how to order a big mac and fries...

When French police stopped me on a motorway check once they were quite upset that I wasn't interested in learning French.

Duolingo is much better now that they have updated it.

They are paid options but Babbel and Jumpspeak are also very good and far more practical apps to use

I'd love to be fluent in French and Spanish as they cover a big chunk of the world.

I'm just about fluent in Greek which is about as useful as a tit on a bull outside of Greece and Cyprus.

Realistically, for work Romanian or Albanian would likely be most useful.

For travel, Spanish probably just based on the number of countries that speak it and some of the vocabulary translates into Portuguese I think

To speak fluently the most useful would be Spanish followed by Japanese.

French is my favourite language though and the one I'm most able in although far from fluent

I know the very basics of French, Spanish and Italian but sadly I'm not fluent in any of them. I was relatively fluent in Greek when we lived there 20 years ago, and I wish I continued to speak it...once you stop using it, it's harder to remember it.

Reminiscent of my time there, what an amazing culture and country.
