Forgotten 80s films
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hey all.
Rubik's son loves to watch 80s films while he is here, his favourite being short circuit and we have shown him all the obvious ones but does anyone have any golden nuggets of 80s or even early 90s films? Not scary.
He also loved the green mile and Shawshank redemption (which I thought in all honesty, he would get bored with but didn't).
Much love x |

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls005576908/
Some absolute classics amongst that lot. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Ghostbusters’
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
He's seen who framed roger rabbit to death, and we watched Ghostbusters last night
I'd love to show him ET and see if he cries but he won't, he barely showed any emotion on green mile lol |

"Thank you ❤️"
You're welcome! IMDb is good for that sort of thing. Got loads of lists for various things that people have created.
"I know what I'm doing the weekend now "
Oh, yeah! 80's marathon! Been a while since I've done one. Last was all the classic Arnie films. Predator, Junior, Terminator, Conan, Jingle All The Way, etc. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Lots of good old classics here suggested.
Hope I'm not repeating what others have suggested.
Hot shots! & Hot Shots! part Deux
Robin Hood, men in Tights.
Back to the Future, the Trilogy.
Beverley Hills Cop.
Die Hard.
Also, Sheriff and the satellite kid, 1979 movie, but close enough to the 80's.

The Money pit (1986) comedy
Back to School (1986) maybe too crude
They Live (1988) goofy JC film maybe too strange
RAD (1986) fun 80's bmx teen thing
Never Cry Wolf (1983)
White Fang (1991)
The Journey of Natty Gann (1985)
All gritty disney adventure yarns
The Bear (1988) one of the most well made films I've ever seen
All above if liking for animals
Spoorlos (1988).............don't ! |

Quite niche and underground as it wasn’t a blockbuster or anything- but I love, love, LOVED …
Stand and Deliver with Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Phillips. Film about Chicano (Mexican-American) teenagers in a very deprived high school in East Los Angeles who got extraordinary results in Advanced Calculus pre-University entry tests. Andy Garcia is in it too! Available on Amazon Prime video. A true gem.
Also … La Bamba with Lou Diamond Phillips too ![](/icons/s/cool.gif) |

Someone asked why Gremlins or Beetlejuice were not mentioned, maybe they could be seen as scary?
I’ll put The Lost Boys in there too. May-be-scary, but great film!!
Another great and not-well-known film: The Boy Who Could Fly. Awesome feel-good film.
FUCK I LOVED (and miss!) THE 80s! ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"Robocop!
Amadeus- one of my favourite films of all time….
Tootsie, Mr. Mom, Kramer Vs Kramer… "
Mr Mom is a good one. Other good Michael Keaton 80s/early 90s ones are Gung Ho, and The Dream Team |

"Anyone said Edward Scissorhands?
That was 90's. Great film though.
Definitely 90s. My pre-teen daughter adores this film 🥲❤️"
I always shed a tear when the inventor dies before Edward gets his hands, even now. |

"Gregory's Girl

Sleeping With The Enemy
Similar style to Gregory's Girl
Restless Natives
That Sinking Feeling
Local Hero"
All three classics. Restless natives is so underrated.

"The time bandits "
Not sure about the current remake. Its alright but not a patch on the movie.
As for forgotten movies (or not as well remembered as other 80s movies cos man, what a movie era)..
Weird Science.
Enemy Mine.
The Last Star Fighter
Night of the Comet.
Swamp Thing and the Return of Swampthing.
The Ice Pirates
The Philadrlphia Experiment.
Shocker
I like sci fi..sue me.
Makes you wonder what happened.
We had so many amazing movies back then. Now ita a diet of recycled/ remade unoriginal woke franchised shite.

Apart from the massive franchise films as a kid some other favourites were:

Short Circuit
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
War Games
The Fly
None forgotten but still worth a mention |

The Fly really left a mark in me.
So awfully scary… wouldn’t recommend for a kid who gets scared but it’s a good film!
Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis are mega hot in it 🤤 😍

"Some great recommendations, but I am surprised no one has mentioned:
Raiders of the Lost Ark"
Well I guess those, Star Wars, Back to the Future are far from forgotten since the first 2 are still releasing films and Back to the Future 4 is imminent. |

Isn't it wonderful when some random person feels the needs to DM you to inform.you that he doesn't like some of the suggestions you made on the forum, and feels the need to suggest other films that are 'much better'
Wonder how many other people he felt the need to give his unsolicited opinions too.
