There seems to be a lot of posts about aftershave, EDT, EDP and fragrances in general, but what smell, when you get a whiff of it, brings back happy memories?
I'll kick off with my favourite of Bay Rum at the barbers once a month with my Grandad. Sitting on a padded plank and getting a sixpence for being a good boy. |

"The smell of tomato stalks - I am transported back to my grandfather’s greenhouse, also geraniums- his conservatory was always full of them"
I can totally chime with this, except in my grandads case it was chrysanthemums.
The cuttings went outside of the chrysanthemums. And the tomatoes went in the greenhouse after the soil was sterilised.
The heady smells of a cottage garden and greenhouse. |

There's a fir tree in my garden which, when I walk past it sometimes, smells like the fir trees in my grandparents garden. The smell of it transports me back 40 years.
.
Every so often, I'll smell a sticker, and it reminds me of the Panini Care Bears sticker album I had in the 80s.
.
The smell of Brut reminds me of snuggling into my Dad's arms and feeling so loved and protected. |

I once got a whiff of a certain type of cleaning product, I've not found out which it is. I was transported to when I was about 5, and I was in the kitchen with my auntie in the summer house asking for something while she was preparing food.
It was so weird but amazing. I kept trying to retrace my steps just so I could go back there in my head again.

I find it absolutely amazing how a certain smell can make us regress back many years to our childhoods and usually happy memories. Better than relaxed regression therapy (can't use the expected word for some reason, but you know the word)..
The human mind and olfactory system are marvelous things, and even people with severe degenerative memory issues can be whisked back many years and remember things we would expect them to have forgotten.
They say dogs see the world through smell. I don't thinks were that far behind them to be honest. |

"Cold tar soap, the orange block of soap, instantly reminds me of my nanny and grandad, sometimes I just have a whiff of it in Sainsbury's and instantly feel happy x"
Same for me and even buy one occasionally to have in bathroom |

Freshly cut grass reminds me of life as a child, playing outside, our weird gardener that we had had for ages who would cut the grass by hand and make a massive pile of it which he’d tie and let dry in the sun.
The smell of petrol reminds me of dirt bikes and motorcycles that I bravely rode or drove with my siblings on hot summer days.
The smell of sea spray reminds me of peace, tranquility, serenity, and a recent sailing adventure with a friend.
The smell of Acqua di Gio reminds me of summers in Ibiza during university. Specifically a guy I spent loads of time with one summer and all the madness we got up to.
The smell of rice and beans reminds me of home and my grandparents. |

The smell of savlon reminds me of when my daughter was learning to walk as a toddler.
We nicknamed her “bambi” as she was always tripping over her own feet |

Many memories of the local scramble meet.
Addictive, but, alas gone now."

Maybe an older Scouser will vouch for this .....
Walking into Lewis's in Liverpool ( NO not fucking John Lewis okay! )
Lewis's ..... the smell of fresh cucumber and coffee wafting over from the ground floor Bistro .......
It just sent a message to eat. So i'd nip up to the 5th floor for a plate of chips and a knickerbocker glory ...... heaven |
