Reports from Hull, famous for William Wilberforce who is credited with abolishing sl@very by the English, that rioters looted Greg's. A young looter is photographed with a plastic tray full of delicacies and presumably sausage rolls to replenish hungry rioters.

It amazes Tom how popular Greg's is and a staple diet for many. It's all over the news

Greggs is a staple of the working class because of the affordable prices but the working class aren’t just a bunch of white racists.

I’ve seen my fair share of absolute freaks in some of my local ones including a bloke who call a woman a c**t because he thought she was pushing in; in front of his daughter.

I think letting it be labelled as a place for racists just cedes a British institution to a bunch of assholes. And while the quality of the stuff isn’t great I will say at least their coffee is fair trade unlike a lot of other places

Do you need to be taught what a conditional is, Tom?

"If" this is normal - it being the subject of this post - "then" I am such.

Is rioting and looting normal? Is trying to set a building on fire knowing people are inside normal?

I sure hope not. It's not the Britain I know.

If normality for you or anyone else is trying to burn people alive, then I am quite proud to be loony.

However, if one has attended rudimentary English lessons as a child, one would realise that an "if, then" construction does not state that something is a certainty.

Perhaps we should address educational failings as well as whatever else has caused this barbarism to explode from British people.

Huh. Although I was educated in a foreign country, I was under the impression that Australian English and British English were mutually intelligible. It would seem not... and that somehow the Russell Group university I attended in the UK was using Australian English. Because what you say doesn't at all follow from what I've said.

But we mustn't go too far from the lesson, as it's important.

Swing does not want to burn people alive, or even attempt it.

If it is sane to (attempt to) burn people alive, then Swing does not want to be sane.

If it is sane to (attempt to) burn people alive, then Swing wants to be something very far away from sane.

"Loony" is a word commonly used to describe something very far away from sanity.

If attempting to burn people alive is sanity, then Swing is happy to accept a label, such as loony, to describe her state of being.

I'm afraid constructing a logical flow within an argument or conversation is a different lesson. You'll have to come back after you've mastered the conditional.

This is not a matter I discuss anywhere apart from in my inbox.

Here, I'd much rather discuss things such as the use of the conditional, which stores should be looted, and where on the sanity scale it is to want to burn people alive. You know, on topic.

I wasn't aware that Australia processed petty criminals in the outback. Nor that England had anywhere that would be remote enough for that.

I've just heard a suggestion that they should be sent to the barge off Dorset. I'm sure the rioters would be delighted to experience the sheer luxury provided by the British state.

It'll also reduce some of the prison problem we face. Shame about the spread of infectious disease though. I'm sure the rioters have immune systems, it'll be fine.

If attempting to burn people alive is sanity, then Swing is happy to accept a label, such as loony, to describe her state of being.

Can I suggest you don’t feed this miserable troll?"

He's twisting it into such a fun erotic story though, about how he holds his breath for me to have a miraculous conversion to the type of creature who thinks it's acceptable to burn people alive!

"Loony" is a word commonly used to describe something very far away from sanity.

I get the irony. However, being a troll, he is delighted by being noticed as much as by being loathed, insulted, ridiculed. Even telling him to f### off it’s a win for him, because that’s more attention that what he’d get in real life.

I’m sure you noticed that he tries to come up with a saucy argument to stir opinions every day, trying to come across as the usual cynical pub bore. The only people that like him are probably the moderators, because at least he keeps people busy

My advice remains to ignore him and his posts

It would be much easier to ignore if they were moved to the politics section, that's for sure.

And don't worry. I'm fairly observant

Good girl

Talking about moving the posts under the correct category, I’m sure someone gets paid for sorting these “mistakes”…how are they called? Moderators?

Maybe it's like January 6. We can be proud of higher class rioters. We wait for them.

Higher class rioters are the ones who actually change something. This ones are just, to use an American term, white trash

I saw a fascinating interview the other day about the historical origins of the term white trash. Nancy Isenberg was really interesting.

An email I tried to send at work was blocked by the filters because it contained the expression "white trailer trash".

That guy with the tray of sausage rolls seems to have successfully avoided the pasty tax in this instance.

"Reports from Hull, famous for William Wilberforce who is credited with abolishing sl@very by the English, that rioters looted Greg's. A young looter is photographed with a plastic tray full of delicacies and presumably sausage rolls to replenish hungry rioters.

It amazes Tom how popular Greg's is and a staple diet for many. It's all over the news"

Tom you need to sort your grammar out it’s getting worse.

Tom I used to like your posts. Now you’re starting to come across as a snob

Slating charity shops and Greggs. It must be great to live on your ivory cloud where money doesn’t seem to be an issue but for many they rely on charity shops and more affordable places to buy food

Greggs give away or sell of their uneaten food at the end of the night for a pittance rather than bin it, this should be all over the news

£1.20 for a sausage roll... They crossed the £1 barrier, declared themselves 'not a bakery' and cut back on staff which increases waiting times while prices rise. No thanks. I do home made sausage rolls now using pre-rolled pastry. Anyone sick of Greggs or who just likes boycotting monopolists then this is the way to go. I'm going to start baking my own bread soon, I'll make rolls and mini baguettes. Hopefully we'll see some forum members queuing outside the first Wombles before 2026 lol

"Nothing screams social justice better than looting yourself a few sausage and bean melts

I suppose it is one way to take your country back. Smash shit up, steal, then complain when the services that have to deal with the carnage aren't available to you (or raise their prices/ taxes).

The Ozzie's got a different approach. They process them in remote Australia. Could that work in England?"

That will be Ozzy Osborne?

Womble, Mr."

There's a well known Yorkshire baker called Thomases, and rumor has it he and Gregg's were in business together. Thomas's didn't like what Gregg's was trying to do and the pair split. Now Thomas's remains relatively small yet treat their employees well. Greggs fuel rioters.

Never understood the popularity of Gregg's. Bit overpriced these days for something that isn't particularly great. However we all have our dark secrets and guilty pleasures, mine is a pizza slice. I've been to Gregg's maybe 3 time in the past 2 years. Last time I visited one in a large train station. The price seemed a bit steep. I later found out they inflate the prices at the station branch for the captive passing train passengers and it was cheaper at the Gregg's outside of the station. I think that was my final straw for me.

I must admit if I contemplating participation in some public disorder Gregg's wouldn't not be top of my list for looting. Maybe I'd hit up a branch of Curry's, pick up a Ninja air fryer. After all give a man a Gregg's and he can feed himself for a few hours, give him a Ninja air fryer and he can feed himself for a few years.

Greggs has gone to the dogs. Their cake selection is dire!!

If they could have taken out a tray of cakes I reckon that would have calmed folk down - It's hard to be violent when savouring a fresh cream éclair!!
