A sports shop in Wrexham, famous for the state of the art International Football Stadium which is one of the oldest in the world and still the most prestigious in Wales. The shop has a flagpole with a flag declaring a woke free zone but the council are making them seek planning permission. What's going on here? It's all over the news |

They didn’t seek planning permission for the flagpole …. Basic media making a mountain out of nothing.
If the company prefer to advertise themselves as a woke free zone… that’s up to them. They do need permission for the 3 flagpoles they’re erecting though |

Retrospective application for an advertising permit for the flag pole. Sod all to do with them flying a woke free zone flag. They apparently intend to fly several different ones but felt asking for forgiveness instead of permission was easier.

Bits of the uk are dangerous. We don't need foreign States declaring it so. Having said that I guess it's not that dangerous to stop them from flocking here in their 10s of thousands. Maybe that was the strategy all along. Reduce the quality of life lower than the countries whose populations are moving here. |

Certainly some validity here. Racism and bigotry are never acceptable, nor those claiming fake news as facts (Olympic female boxing bigots that means you) but there is also a point where people need to consider whether they are being fair and equitable to all. That includes at times a realisation that those that identify as Cismale or cisfemale (apologies if the reference is incorrect, but I mean those born and identifying as a male or female respectively ) have the right to a view, in healthy debate these views need to be explored and not dismissed as racist or bigoted. I do feel at times these views are instantly dismissed as not valid which restricts our ability as a society to move forward

Yes. Britain does clearly have such a volatile political environment, stoked over the last fourteen years, and not helped by sustained cuts to policing, that I'd tell anyone to spend their money literally anywhere else.
I just hope that we now have adults in charge to undo the decline we've seen. |

I haven’t read the whole thread but you legally require planning permission for a flag pole if it’s not flying a recognised national flag. For the avoidance of doubt that also applies to St George crosses with “Engerland” written on them. |

I just think most issues are really complex but the ‘woke’ just try and shout and drown out any opinion that isn’t their own.
I’m friends with a few trans people - I’m respectful and called them whatever they want to be addressed as…….but I don’t believe they should be able to play sport as their chosen gender. Apparently that makes me a dinosaur.
Im fed up with being called a far right racist because I believe the country to be full. It has nothing to do with race, I’d not want the numbers of white people entering the country illegally either. I just think we are full. Apparently that makes me a racist dinosaur!

It’s become fashionable when it became obvious there are no consequences to it. When the Romany community rioted last month and set buses on fire nothing happened on the night and no arrests were made on the day or since. This gave the impression that it’s ok to riot!

You may well be a really nice person, I hope you are, but these riots have little to do with the self branded oppressed amongst the white community and their concerns about immigrants, Muslims or the application of law & order.
I've lived long enough to remember the uprising of the far right in the early 80's, provoked by racists (white people who hated people with black/brown faces) who used immigration as a tool to justify 'Paki bashing' and racially abusing black footballers amongst other things.
Let's call out these people out for what they are-haters, if we as the white majority had regarded them with the same indignation as we do paedophiles they would have crawled under a stone long ago and allowed a grown up conversation around people's legitimate concerns about immigration. |

I think the talking point says much more about the astonishment that rules apply to the right.
The left often go into these things - not all, there are idiots on all sides of politics - knowing that they'll face legal and social repercussions. We set up bail funds, we read up on the law, we work out how to end up in the least worst legal position.

There is a difference between physically full and effectively full. 20mil population increase in 20 years would be fine, but we don’t have 20mil’s worth of extra hospitals, doctors, dentists, schools, roads, police, fire………

Immigrants on average pay more tax. And are younger, so are less likely to need strained healthcare services. Tax can pay for all of these services. And immigrants can work in them.

I'd say several years of borderline-draconian austerity measures and economic mismanagement by a Tory government that couldn't organise a fire in a match factory are probably more likely to be the catalyst that led to our current infrastructure issues, rather than the immigration issue that's quite often blown entirely out of proportion in terms of volumes of illegal immigrants entering, and what they're actually entitled to when here. |

I'm not sure if people gishgallop on purpose, or whether they don't understand the depths of arguments.
I know, obviously, that people like Gish and those following do it deliberately. But I increasingly wonder if the conservative news cycle is so fast and inconsistent that people don't stop to think - huh, why do puberty blockers exist? How long have they existed for? Why would they exist if they're only for things that I think are scary? What does this have to do with the argument I heard five minutes ago?
