Don’t shoot me, a gay friend of mine actually posed the question , his answer is an emphatic yes, although he really isn’t, I’ve known him since he was a lad involved with football, he came out at 16 and he’s had 3 partners in 12 years but his gay do have that in a week (his words! )

Not my thing, but I am sure the answer is: some are, some aren’t.

Always difficult to speak about whole groups of people without coming across as prejudice but certainly the image of gay men is that they are more so. Like with any group, there will be some that live up to that image and some that won’t

I shared a house in my 20s in Auckland with some gay men & they would often tell stories like jogging by the canal bumping into guys and ending up fucking in the bushes. Also after a night out when everyone else went home at 2-3 in the morning they would go cruising around public toilets, so they had this real reputation of being super promiscuous compare to the straights in the house.

Looking back now I think they were just like any other guys in the 20s , horny as fuck ! but the ways of meeting and getting laid was different because of the stigma of being gay

At 50 I’m invisible to gay men. Probably have been since about 30. The gay scene despises anything not Uber masc (toxic masculinity was a product of the gay scene first). So there is a bell curve.

You have no idea how tempting it is to seize on the linguistic ambiguity of the question to answer "Yes, of course gay men are more promiscuous than they are straight; they're not straight at all." :P

Can only speak to what I know firsthand. I have a few gay friends and they can basically get sex on tap. Just fire up Grindr and it's delivered to their door or head to a cruising spot.

My take on this is that horny gay guys who choose promiscuity have much easier access to other like minded men.

Horny hetero guys would absolutely be just as promiscuous if they could.

Would you say they're more promiscuous than swingers OP?

I think personally the answer is that some people are more promiscuous than others.

I know plenty of monogamous gay couples. Some married, some not. I know some straight and bi couples that are monogamous too.

Equally I know plenty of straight people that would be classed as highly sexually active with frequent multiple partners.

I've always found it funny that sexually active people (of whatever gender and sexuality) are called promiscuous in the 'outside' world when in swinging they'd probably just be classed as 'active'.

Terminology and semantics I guess. 🤷‍♂️

It was a question posed by a gay friend and I thought I would throw it open to the masses of FAB

As you will see from my original post, my friend is a monogamous gay man, the reason I’m asking is to get opinions , I think the access to opportunity is the main reason that it appears to be the case, grinder having been mentioned earlier

Would you consider promiscuous a negative word?

I've always just considered it a descriptor in the context of sex and see no problem describing myself as promiscuous.

Me personally? Not at all.

But wider society does and has for years, perpetuated largely by the media.

And stereotypes about certain sectors of society.

Men are promiscuous so it makes it that much easier when it is a man looking for another man,as apposed to a man looking for a woman.

But saying that my best mate is gay and has been with his partner for over 20 years.neither straying from each other.

I think it's fairly standard across sexuality, with context changing things

Maybe more opportunity? But overall I suspect like all groups there will be a mix.

My gay, married friends have been together for decades and they haven't had sex with each other for 15 years, nor anyone else.

As someone said, it's easier for men to find other men for sex, but that doesn't mean all gay men are promiscuous.

I've probably had more partners than my gay friends.

I think we're looking at it the wrong way.

If some straight guys could get as much sex as some gay chaps, would some of them take just as much advantage of this?

I've just always seen them as women with a man's sex drive. Plus they have the availability to sex as a woman so that's why they're seen as more promiscuous

Ye. Generaly men as a whole are very forward with sex. A lot more than women are (generally)

Gay gays are very very forward.

What does it mean? I dunno, but that’s how I see it.
