We fancy watching a decent film tonight, but the problem with the likes of Netflix and Amazon seems to be that the target audience is 14 year olds.

There should be a "show me things the over 45's might like" button (adverts for funeral plans maybe?)

So, what's something decent that stays in your mind for a while afterwards and absolutely doesn't have anyone who can fly in it? (to be fair, she likes that sort of thing but it makes my eyes roll so much I can't focus)

Thanks in advance, Fabbers.

Somewhere In The Ether…

I watched, Eight For Silver on Netflix the other night.

It’s a rather interesting period horror take on the werewolf story.

Very well made and it looks beautiful but somewhat overlong sadly.

Still well worth checking out though

I watched ‘The Wall’ last night, and found that unusually plotted and quite enjoyable.

Depends what kind of films you like?

I find the trouble with netflix and prime they have really old films, none I have no interest in whatsoever.

I really enjoyed fall guys though.

I Care a Lot is on Amazon and is one of the darkest comedies you'll ever watch.

I always recommend Carol to anyone who hasn't watched it. It's thoughtful, it's sophisticated and it's incredibly beautifully shot.

Sound of Metal is a few years old now but I don't know anyone who has watched it and normally when I mention it I'm met with blank looks. It's about a drummer with hearing loss and is raw and thought-provoking and haunting.

Who You Think I Am is an odd film but I loved it. Starring the ever-luminous Juliette Binoche it's a great look at social media and the illusion of intimacy.

I also watched The Iron Claw on Prime last night which was based on a famous wrestling family who faced tragic circumstances. So tragic the the director left out other bad parts.

How many classic (mis)quotes can you spot?

You’ve probably watched them, but two of my most favourite films of all time Shawshank redemption and the Green Mile

That's right, I believe there were 6 brothers but the film only mentioned 5

This is what we went for, thank you so much! That was excellent. Just right for a Monday night; not too taxing, not too frivolous, held our attention all the way through and we really enjoyed it

I really wouldn’t bother with Banshees, it’s on my top 10 bad film list, two hours of my life that I will never get back

If anyone can find "The Big Blue" on any streaming platform, I whole heartedly recommend watching it, whether it's the short version (89 minutes) or the directors cut, bloody go for it.

Ex Machina.

An incredibly deep film, and the sort you discuss for ages afterwards if you like mentally stimulating films that are thought-provoking and demand the audience gaze inwards at themselves.
