I've got a foolproof chlorine reduction method, but you'll need three origami gerbils, a roll of bubble wrap, two sheets of sticky-backed plastic, some ready-rolled puff pastry, and a stop sign. |

Adding algaecide, but won’t enough by the sounds of it?
Lid off is good, as UV really helps.
