Picked up a Q4 etron very recently. I absolutely love it, sporty enough, really nice interior, super cheap to run (surprisingly so), and the range is good enough for the type of driving we do.
Not cheap though compared |

This is a worrying topic for me, as I think my current ride is on its last legs. And I have no way of being able to source or finance a replacement right now.
I’ve got a battered old Focus that has 170k on the odometer, and a lot of stuff that no longer works on it. |

Grandland X
I needed a bigger car and boot space. It has much more space than similar sized SUV, looks really nice and drives well. Love the little perks that modern cars have now such as my lights staying on until I'm indoors, and the car beeping and panicking when I'm reversing... |

"I think it depends on what you want to use it for doesn’t it OP?
Long distance motorway stuff or pottering around town? Loads of space to carry things or just to get somewhere fast?"
I understand…. But I just want people’s real experiences of a car… rather than just a sales person giving me specs |

Twiddling for my new car in February and I’m stuck between a C63 AMG or a Porsche 911 Carrera

I’ve never really had the appeal for Porsche… I get the engineering attraction & the longevity of the brand.. I might pop into look at a C63 see what they’re about. XC 90 is massive not sure if I need that big |

Take his! Haha
I use mine both as a run around and motorway/long journeys. It's always picked as the roadtrip car so it's very comfy for driver and passenger.
I think Sportage would have been my next choice, it's just a bit more expensive. |

I wanted a big hybrid and this was the best option. Imo.
Cheap? "
I paid £27k for mine (second hand, obviously) - massive spec, extremely comfortable.
3.ltr diesel for motorways and electric for local trips (32 miles on the battery).
350bhp (combined).
Love it. |

Put it this way, we now have a ginormous loan but all used cars with big boots seemed to be insanely expensive. We HAD to buy a new car, my previous one died a death and we had been renting a car, which was also prohibitively expensive. I need a car to get to work. I used trains on Tuesday and disability assistance was non existent. I had to bum shuffle on/off with the help of fellow passengers. I ain't doing that on the daily. |

Nope, costs about £7 for 300ish miles when I charge at home, no car tax. Monthly it works out cheaper than my old VW Tiguan and it’s a huge step up. |

"I have a skoda enyaq - i like it, but it's very buggy
Buggy? "
For example :
* Takes up to 10 mins for phone to connect
* If its been hot, it's pot luck as to whether the sunroof will open ... Or if sunroof is open, then pot luck as to whether it will close!
* The satnav often just 'spins' very helpful when you're at a critical junction
*The ACC is often trying to do a different speed to the actual road speed |

Ok so as I work in the Industry (breakdown and recovery) I can honestly say unless you've deep pockets don't go electric especially when out of warranty. Don't go diesel as they will fuck up think dpf ? Big money if that goes ? So for me it's petrol all the way and if you don't mind driving an older car then you won't go wrong with a German or Japanese car? BTW I drive a bmw 5 series |

I have a little Audi A1 auto
Easy to drive and park
Nippy
Great mpg - particularly on motorways
Looks good
Decent spec (but no heated seats )
Not as expensive as you might think
If you do look at them though, if you do motorway miles, look at the 1.5 engine, not the 1.0 |

google dvla mot history, put ya reg in and see how many advisories its had.
go on .gov ulez site and see if its compliant
pay for a finance check which shows up if its a Category vehicle, ie been a damaged repaired vehicle as the D dosent show on v5 log books.
get insurance quote first , its gone up 60 percent.
check on line how much the road tax is per year.
Fuels is still hovering around £6.60 a gallon so ..........
put the reg number to webuyanycar, see how they value it.
Thats how to go about buying a second hand car. |

Non-descript. Nothing fancy. Well cared for (Apart from I don't wash it. Can't be bothered with all that hassle).
.
As an old boss once said to me, "Never ever drive a better car than the head of the company. They won't like it and your card will be marked. Drive something mundane and don't stand out. Plus you are less likely to get it nicked either."
Another boss said to me, "Watch what cars the sales people drive when they come in to do a meet and greet. If they are touting for our business and they drive stupidly expensive cars, they are all show and their company is trying to impress on how successful they are. Their product is most likely shit. Also look at their suits...stupid expensive suits ? Costly product and all show yet again. Avoid".

Built like a tank
Ate up motorways
Stuck to the road like nothing I've driven before or since
Not cheap on fuel though and the petrol ones cos a fortune to tax these days
Plus there are very few good examples out there now and the ones that are special reflect in the prices they sell for |

To run, yes. Drive very sensibly and I can get 33pg on the motorway, around town 20mpg if your lucky. Drive vigorously and it's not hard to get it to single figure mpg.
Not much change from £375-£400 a tyre, new pads and discs all round a little over £2.5k.
To buy, depends what you want, can be picked up relatively cheap these days. |

I've a 22 plate Hyundai Tucson hybrid.
I wanted a bigger vehicle cos I was bigger. I didn't fit in smol cars.
I found Ford to be plasticy inside. Didn't like Vauxhaul offerings. VW, Toyota and Honda were too expensive. Kia weren't too bad, and Nissan almost had me.
I find it super comfy, easy to drive and park (I added the tech pack, so I can remotely move the car backwards/forwards in a straight line. Amazingly helpful in tight car parks!) Drove roughly 300 miles at the weekend and did 3/4 tank of petrol. I think its a 50 litre tank?
You can get 5 adults in it. And there's a good boot on it. |

For anyone looking to buy a new or second hand car there are a few things to consider that will help your purchase
ULEZ has had a huge impact on car prices. The ULEZ effect and insurance hikes are devaluing many used cars and has left many traders, dealers and private sellers having to reduce prices. Uncertainty is having a huge effect on new car prices and deals can be had.

Well, after reading through all the above posts I wondered about selling the bike and getting a car....
But then I thought, hmmm....
Its 25 years old, just short of 500,000 miles, air con is great but heater is crap. My arse goes numb after an hour or two riding...
BUT... its 25 years old, 500000 miles, and still runs like new!
I get close to 300 miles for 27 litres of petrol, I can do EVERY job that could ever need doing myself, insurance is just over £100 a year, tax £70. Its relatively fast and handles great.
I don't get stuck in traffic, free parking etc etc.
So I'm sticking with my 1100cc V4
Honda bike thanks |

Find a BMW diesel with similar miles which can be acquired quite reasonably. Bombproof.
Instead of doing that again I convinced myself I should buy reasonably aged car. 2 replacement turbos on the piece of shite Nissan I got on finance and I’m regretting it! |

Therefore, will never buy another car that Stellantis own....or a Merc. Again main dealers were useless.
Very happy currently with the first Japanese car I've ever owned.....though the diesel engines of the Citroens and Merc, were seriously torquey. |

I used to like the idea of a Tesla, but having read and seen about the build quality I would never. Besides personal opinion , they are not interested in rectifying issues.
Look at Polestar if you are going EV.
If you're talking that kind of cash and don't mind fossil fuels, you've got plenty of quality options (I'd pick a Porsche Cayman). |

"I used to like the idea of a Tesla, but having read and seen about the build quality I would never. Besides personal opinion , they are not interested in rectifying issues.
Look at Polestar if you are going EV.
If you're talking that kind of cash and don't mind fossil fuels, you've got plenty of quality options (I'd pick a Porsche Cayman)."
The salesperson suggested Tesla over polestar today (not Tesla dealership). Electric wasn’t even an option really… Porsche hasn’t ever really interested me. Audi has been past choices |

Fair do.
Personal preferences aside I would swerve Tesla pretty hard - you're way better off (and covered) going for a decent marque. |

If you believe everything you read you’d think yourself lucky if it has four wheels. But really it is just their US factories which are infamous for build issues. All the model 3s in the UK come from Shanghai, the model Ys from Berlin. The Chinese and Germans know what they’re doing.

It’s still built on a legacy chassis, so compromised in some ways. But it is not bad, and if you like the feel of it that’s great. |

I have absolutely no complaints with mine. Personal experience may differ but I don't have any issues personally. The way it is constantly updated too is something else. It's changed so much since i have had it and it's all done over wifi never had it back to the dealership for anything. |

Did you get yours from the production line or used, after the issues have been ironed out?
I'm not throwing shade, but I think numbers speak for themselves and people are better off going for a more established marque.
Just giving my opinion and I'd definitely but my cash elsewhere. |

"2003 black Toyota Celica with all the extras. It's served me very well. Comfy, stylish, drives great and has bulletproof reliability. In spite of the age, recently it flawlessly handled 2 long European road trips.
I'm faced with the dilemma of trading it in for something newer or opening the purse strings to give it some TLC and carry on with a modern classic
We had a nearly new mr2 in 1999.had it for 11 years,it was absolutely bullet proof.
Loved it and always regret selling it."
I had a mk2 about 10 years ago. Lots of fun! |

My Tesla is a new 2023 model from Shanghai. No issues with the build quality whatsoever, and the fact it doesn’t come from a legacy manufacturer is (in my eyes) a plus.
Keep an eye on the other new Chinese brands like BYD and NIO as well, they’re very good.

"Range Rover Sport needed an executive style car. Only ever had one problem with it which was fixed. Would never go to RR for service too expensive. Waiting on new insurance quote to see if I keep it.
I do love it though
I have a couple of friends who have them… lots of space in the back I hear "
Very roomy not that I’d know of course |

There is not one modern/current vehicle on the market which I would want to own or drive, even if I had the means to afford it.
Wouldn't want to sit in one, even once for the experience. No use to me whatsoever.
I want younger replacements for the older vehicles which I already drive or have previously driven.
The best models have been and gone but I still have two great ones in the fleet. |

I have never bought MPVs for any reason to do with having kids.
In fact I take most of the seats out because they are more useful to me configured that way. I also obscure any windows which cannot be used to see out of when driving.
Ok, I'm not a woman but, for the record, I don't have any kids I know about and certainly none since getting snipped! |
