What is your immediate thought when you hear a siren?

I live behind a fire station so the noise doesn't even register anymore. Not a great thing when I'm required to move my car my car out of the way of emergency service vehicles.

They barely register with me.

I on really notice if a couple or more vehicles go past; then I think it's probably a bad accident or big fire somewhere.

“Oh shit, better get out of their way.”

But I am now singing it in my head like Simon&Garfunkle.

Hello darkness, my old friend…

Where I live it could be anything. Bins on fire, someone's had the shit kicked out of them, OD junkie, house broken into, someone kicking off in the local shop (the staff now wear bodycams), local alcoholics arguing over who gets to tan the last of the backwashed Buckfast....the possibilities are endless

Magnificent hoses, Sam. I like it when they blow from the top of tower.

Emergency services or air raid?

They were still testing air raid sirens in my town when I was a kid. My mum told me it was to let the man who worked with my dad know that he needed to go home

Otherwise I think 'someone's in trouble'

Used them around here in my childhood for a one o clock cannon. We all knew the time ....

I can remember the air raid sirens being used to warn of flooding when I was a child.

Every now and then they would test them.
