What's interesting about Essex?

It's a place I have to travel to a fair amount. Yet I don't know much about it.
In fact, all I've really seen is Romford.
And romford.. well I could make a joke about it, but I'm from wigan originally, so I can't..
Where would you recommend to visit then in essex if you had a spare day or two?
It's a big county..

Love these, and Mersea island too, along with Walton on the Naze"
Frinton is nice too and we are lucky with have a lovely coast shame the weather at the moment as I'm missing the beach .. |

I used to live in Brightlingsea, it's lovely. The estuary, the oyster beds, the marina then catch the little foot ferry over to Mersea.
There's some lovely little villages in the areas towards Suffolk like Dedham. |

I miss going to Lakeside, the chocolate topped salted popcorn shop,the collectibles shop where I got all my buffy and angel collectors cards, the best Wimpy, the big kitchen shop i think it was called spoils? I could be wrong.

We did go to spoons on Witham High Street a few times. Followed by a trip to the sainsburys local. Usually because I wanted a Terry's choc organe

I really like Brightlingsea, I have a few friends with boats there and it’s a good place to sail from If heading around France and Spain
Also like West Mersea Island, the Hut is great for fresh sea food.
And of course Jaywick, The bizarre little shantytown by the beach that was deemed the most deprived area in Europe. The local pub is definitely worth a visit |
