Dry Robes

Are these the new in thing? I'm sat in the centre of industrial Greater Manchester, in an old pit town, as far away from the sea as you can get (ish), without a pool or surf beach in sight. Yet, there's a whole host of Dry Robing going on in the streets among these dark satanic mills. I saw a lot of these Robes in Sainsbury's at the weekend too (being worn, obviously). They seem to have suddenly sprung out of nowhere. I suppose that's fashion though?!

No judgement intended folks, just curious if it's a national trend or if the arse-end of the industrial revolution is a special place

Hello fellow KCs

I mean the long garment by the brand "Dry Robe" which are, as far as I can tell, originally designed for keeping one's person toasty and warm after a bracing outdoor swim or surf.

What we're witnessing here in the heart of industrial GM, are the good folk going to and fro from the local chip shop and pub wearing these very garments. It IS pissing down, but it's northern England. There's no swimming or surfing happening nearby

They are great for watching the kids football in the middle of winter. Everyone laughs at you until their frostbite kicks in and then they turn up with a dryrobe next week.

And to collect your lightly battered fish and portion of chips and mushy peas. If you're here, that is.

Isn't fashion a wonderful thing?

On a slight digression, the fact that 90s/00s fashion seems to be "in" is slightly depressing too! All the local young ladies look like All Saints c.1999. That means I'm old, right?!

If I put a bath robe and a pac a Mac on, doing the same job right? For a tenth of the cost.

For further balance, we have a young lady in a short playsuit, crocs and a very thin jacket. This is more akin to what we're used to up here

It IS double figures temperature-wise. Just about

Haha, yes! Wild conjures images of solo swims miles from civilisation in jungle glades and waterfalls, with optional white-water rapids. Not a wee dip in the loch with eight or nine pals from the neighbourhood.

We would probably have them if we were still wakeboarding, guess we’re hardcore to do without lol, but for normal day to day life such as shopping, it’s a big no, reminds me of the croc crew, if I see them away from water based sports it’s eeeek sorry if this offends

I felt like shite this morning and was very tempted to do the school run (in the car) in my PJ bottoms, but I just couldn't do it. I had a shower and got dressed. Then sacked off asking for the day off again and just worked from the sofa.

Maybe I should get a Dry Robe for the school run?

we have the Equidry for Equestrian wear ! can ride in them and everything, great for the winter but a bit pricey at £200 quid plus a shot - they basically towelling inside and 100% waterproof over sized coat.

There are lots of different makes and prices vary

Primak did one at £45 but was only in purple, Matalan did one for a similar price but the people i knew who had those, they leaked at the seams.

they are great for the cold wet weather if your doing outdoor activities or having to sit and watch the kids and pretend your having a great time in a howling gale and torrential rain

E genuinely used one of ours to walk to and from hotel to sex club

No trying to find appropriate space in the club to change upon arrival ,

or prior to departure of club to get back

Warm both ways

Stayed Dry as it was a bit drizzly on way back from club to hotel , at which point J wished he had one

And when we were there , they just hung it up near the entrance for us

Not going to a club without one ever again !

Dry robes are now a thing

“Dryrobe” by Goldie Lookin Chain

"

Here’s the full lyrics.

If you go down

The shops in slippers and pyjamas

You’ll know Hunter welly boots aren’t just for farmers

A symbol of status that you can wear, made like a bin bag full of pubic hair

You don’t dress like a dentist when you drive a boat

But I wears it like it’s a normal coat

At the football when little Timmy’s in goal other parents look at me like I’m an asshole

Dryrobe, Dryrobe

If you don’t like the look you are a Dryrobophobe

Dryrobe, Dryrobe

But it won’t fit in my fucking wardrobe

I was wearing my wetsuit in the local swimming pool

Saw a Dryrobe so I threw away my cagoule

Villages towns parks across the land

Whose coats that jacket and what’s the brand

It’s a Dryrobe

And I wears it with pride on the school run not at the seaside

I don’t care

As you stand and stare

‘Cause I know you got yours at Mountain Warehouse

Dryrobe, Dryrobe

If you don’t like the look you are a Dryrobophobe

Dryrobe, Dryrobe

But it won’t fit in my fucking wardrobe

Like Harry Potter’s Invisibility cloak

But you can still see me and I look fucking dope

Like Batman with a Batman cape

I’m walking my dog smoking my vape

Naked underneath wore it straight out the shower

And other dog walkers are scared of its power

Made for beaches or after swimming in lakes

I wears mine down Parsons when I’m inviting cakes

I like getting noticed

I’m living life large

So I bought another Dryrobe in camouflage

Almost did a jizz when I took it out the box

And it looks even better with a fresh pair of Crocs

Went down Jackson Bay just to watch the tide

Saw you wearing d Dryrobe snide

Was it Begatta or Two Bare Feet

It looked pretty good but it will never beat my

just somewhere around here

Look on that famous social media site that starts with F ends in book....for the "dry robe wanker" page.

I mean, do you really need to wear a camo dry robe walking around pets at home? They look ridiculous!

Unless you have been swimming in the sea/river/lake then there really is no need for one. There are these amazing things called "coats" for cold wet weather...they look better too!!
