Weird Things That Scared You As A Child
Jump to: Newest in thread
Ey up again good folks
What daft things scared you as a child?
I’ll start; Zippy from Rainbow freaked me right the hell out.
Those googly eyes…that ghastly voice and the fact that every now and then, Geoffrey would literally zip his mouth shut!
Over to you now |

the lamppost outside the house - had like a hat on it so when it shone through the window it looked like a man with a hat on - i was convinced that it was really a man watching me and was going to get me if i got out bed - he was working in collusion with the bogie man who lived in the built in cupboard in my room which had to have the wardrobe in front of it to stop them getting out |

The rat upstairs in the loft.
When I was about 3 or 4 my mum would say "im just going to speak to the rat".
Then she reappear with some sweets.
The rat was just her name for a cardboard box she stored sweets in. Don't know why she called it that.
I thought there was a giant talking rat, living up there. |

I had this irrational fear of clowns.
Actually, wait it's not irrational, it's perfectly rational. Clowns are the spawn of hell and any grown human who wants to be a clown should be closely monitored by the relevant authorities.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who got freaked out by the original Moomins, even the little white fellas , do know what it was about them, they all just felt so creepy |

I distinctly remember me as an 11 year old measuring out how long a triffid tongue was..! |

"Albert Tatlock!!
Specifically, the "free poster from Look-In" that somehow made it onto one of our walls (just why?).
He followed me everywhere, and he was a scary old person!"

I was terrified of something that I had a recurring dream about called “ziggers” they just looked like a grey corduroy Pattern about 2 inches wide and ten inches long and shaped into an upside down tick I’d dream over and over I was stuck on my bed and there were loads of them going about on the floor and if I got off my bed they would kill me (fuck knows how I was young and not the brightest laddie)my mam would use the threat of them to get me to do as I was told which never helped |

As a kid I watched the Worzel Gummidge TV show. Someone then bought me a Worzel doll. The skin glowed in the dark and freaked me out so I put it in the spare room and made sure the door was closed tight |

I was convinced that all the creepy crawlies lived at the bottom of the bed. I had to sleep in the fetal position as I thought that if I stretched my legs out all the critters would nibble on my toes during the night. |

Some of the things above don't seem that weird.
Daleks were scary, yes.
I used to hide my face in a sofa cushion when Mummra came on the screen during Thundercats. But not that weird, he was a scary bastard.
I used to freak out if the wardrobe doors weren't shut fully.
And I was petrified of dogs. I'm still wary of them now. |

Flushing toilets!
My brother used to push me into the toilet bowl when I was sat on the pot and flush it telling me the bog monster was coming...
I couldn't flush the toilet after that, I would make my Dad do it and when I eventually did I used to flush and run |

It was the 3D one that freaked me out the animated one I was fine with and only the little red dressed one which someone said is "Little My"
I think part of it was the 3D one was darker and the animated one is much clearer and brighter
I find it funny that I'm a horror fan now and something so simple used to freak me out |

Woodlice they still make me shudder now but, I used to wake up imagining that my carpet was covered in them, a dark, writhing mass and if I got off of my bed I'd have to stand on them and my body would become engulfed as they climbed over me, smothered me, scuttled and wormed their way inside every office... it was horrid. "The landing at the top of the stairs in our house, always felt like someone was watching me from it. "
My bed as a kid used to overlook the landing and I’d always imagine E.T reaching out and grabbing Reese’s pieces like in the film. I wouldn’t dare venture across the landing at night. |

Only one thing ever lol
The dark at night when I was about 10. Started after watching one of the spook movies. Had some nasty nightmare that I don't remember lol. After about a week of that I decided I had to confront the evil spook. So after everyone was asleep and around midnight (Scary lol) I sneaked out into the back garden. Scared the living hell out of me lol literally. Kept my hands to my sides and slowly walked to the back of the long garden to the bushes and back just using the stars for some light. Worked, never had any fear of it again. |
