That's Why We Go to Iceland

I have been to Iceland. I don't buy their frozen foods but mine is right by the station and it sells bread and veg and other supermarket stuff.
They have cheese n milk n butter too ... They have tons of meat but I don't eat it. |

It's the frozen supermarket and not the country. Tom has never actually been in one of these shops. Are they any good? "
The warehouse is good it's like costco or makro on the cheap and available to everyone. |

"I don't buy any frozen stuff i don't have a freezer, i buy fresh which of course can lead to waste but so be it "
Frozen food is almost always fresher than “fresh”. Nutrients fade away the longer food has been harvested but freezing stops that loss. Frozen food tends to be frozen within a couple of hours of being picked which means it has only lost a couple of hours of nutrients. “Fresh” food would have been picked days ago - that’s a lot of time for nutrients to go walkies. |

Frozen veg has a “taste”‘though. I don’t like it at all. Definitely has a weird taste |

True. Frozen cabbage is like slopsville. I only buy frozen peas and edamame beans. Frozen carrots are slimy and none of them taste like the real thing. Oh .. I WILL buy sweetcorn and chopped onions too |

You have to defrost it and heat it through before you eat it. It improves the taste |

I was made redundant a while back and on benefits so I used Iceland as my main food shop. It is humbling to see people count pennies and buy that £1 pizza because that is all they can afford.
Now, I'm in a much better place financially but I still shop there. They do have some great products if you leave your snobbery at the door and take a proper look.
My current favourites are their Stuff Crust Pizza. Chicken and Bacon with cheese crust, and their "Absolute Banger" with hotdog crust. Two for £5. Ten minutes in the Air Fryer and they are really tasty. |

Aldi is ok actually, also.
I remember thinking the fish was not bad. (I haven't eaten meat though for over 10 years though so this is a while ago.)
It might not be the establishment of "Tom's choice" though..
Have the butler on alert and send him down. |

I buy frozen peas, sweetcorn and berries, as its saves waste and is a lot cheaper and some times fish.
Fresh meat in Iceland is OK, ideal if you are on a budget.
Im not a fan of frozen processed foods. |

they dont deliver here and parking by the nearest is a nightmare - and I always buy too much and the bag too heavy!!

"“Frosty Jack”
It’s a good drive to my local Iceland. But this seems to be a big seller. Always one or two people holding a few of the big bottles in their arms. Never tried it myself.
Strong Cider ?

Now this will surprise a lot of ya...
My local Food Warehouse (mega out of town Iceland) sells frozen Dim Sum.
So you may know they are Hong Kong dumplings which you can steam from frozen. Such delicacies like Hargaw and Sieu Mai - little dumplings of prawns and pork.
They also have Char Sieu Bau (soft buns with pork meat inside, ooo'er missus!) and Lor Mai-Kai - sticky rice with meat wrapped in Lotus Leaf.
As a Dim Sum lover, I can vouch the quality is not bad.
They are not cheap but much cheaper than going into Chinatown on a Sunday for traditional Dim Sum. |

Yes, this is why I eat frozen fish, some of the stuff on the “fresh fish” counter in supermarkets can be 2 weeks old |

Main reason why I don't like shopping there is not its association with chav culture but because you can't cross between aisles half way along. A right pain if you only want a few items from around the store.
Any swinging Iceland decision makers please take note. |

I love an Iceland. I buy the kids packed lunch stuff from there and it’s brilliant for ice creams and lollies in the Summer.
Not a hive of nutritious fresh food as you’d expect by the name, but it’s not a shit show of a shop either. |

Go in join Iceland club membership get card show on Tuesdays with ID showing age . 10% off excludes alcohol I think ( though maybe it’s legal to discount in England) . |

Thank you. I prefer card to phone apps. However, I can see why people who have lots of loyalties would not want a bulging wallet full of cards.
Overall I prefer shops which keep prices down with no special treatment. Works fine that way in Aldi. |

Having visited both I prefer the shop to the country. Put your hand down and grab in the blue lagoon and you'll get a fist full of pubes for your trouble, do the same in a freezer chest at the shop and you'll get a family meal for 2 quid, old Edna on till 3 keeps her garden well groomed and stragler free. |

I remember the Sunday £5 deal which was your frozen potatoes, veg, a meat of some description and a dessert.
Any company which makes it easier to make sure a struggling family can have a good meal is a winner in my books.
And the big bollocks to go "nah, let's fuck off the Christmas Ad this year and instead make baby milk formula actually slightly more affordable" frankly is admirable.
Thight they would have gone with "Familes go to Iceland" as very gender neutral and inclusive of all dynamics, I can't imagine anyone but the most over saturated dyed in the wool nutters taking exception to their chosen dynamic referred to as a family. |

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest |
There's one right next to my workplace. It's not bad. Certainly cheaper than Co Op, Waitrose, Morisson's etc. Meat is good and cheaper than the others. It's great for people who don't cook given the amount of frozen meals in there. Fruit is OK. Veggie selection isn't great, with better quality to be found elsewhere. |

Reports that the chief executive collapsed two miles from the end of the London Marathon which would have been about 24 miles in. He says paramedics saved his life. This is not related to the thread but an interesting fact thrown in to keep peoples in the know.
