Hardly one of the Dalia Lama’s best known mantras but effective all the same.
Do you have something that keeps you going?
In the Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harry Fry he says to himself ‘you will not die’ as he takes each step. I like that mantra, what’s the worst that can happen. |

""will this matter in two weeks time?' is something I often think to myself. The time span can be increased in accordance with the seriousness of the problem up to and including 'when I'm dead' "
Wise words.

Again using film to illustrate things but in Bridge of Spies when the lawyer asks the Russian Spy if he’s not frightened of the prospect of the death penalty.

Everything will be alright in the end. If its not alright its not the end.
Said on repeat today.
I will also take your advice of "don't be a cunt" as, frankly, I'd really, really like to be an utter bitch but alas I will feel bad after and its not worth it.

Love a bit of Mark Rylance.
The Outfit is a pretty good movie of his too.
I usually think something along the lines of "other than shock/fear/vanity/ego, how much does this thing ACTUALLY affect what I'm doing and what I want?"
I tend to be pretty instantaneous with the question when something arresting happens (and have asked it so often now I don't even need the actual words - it's become an accessible and specific "feeling" that doesn't need words, so it's accessible pretty much without delay).
Occasionally there's something of import that requires further work to resolve, mostly the things fall under shock/fear/ego etc, so I get on with the bigger task to hand. |

"Help yourself by not reading self help books.
Get a buzz by not using buzzwords.
Don't repeat yourself and stop using mantras.
These may sound flippant but they are actually principles I follow."
Ignorance is bliss then |

One of my favourite memes has always been 'The best place for your inspirational quote is up your arse'.
People love posting them on Facey as if they cure all ills.
Aside from 'don't be a cunt' which is always excellent advice, there's also the classic Mark Twain quote of “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience" |

A serious one though is that we judge others by their actions but ourselves by our intentions.
It tends to help me not take everything at face value and react impulsively. |

"Be Attractive, don't be unattractive."
Classic formula 1 saying;
"its all shit and everyones a c*nt"
You can waste a lot of energy worrying about things you can't change. just focus on the stuff you can.
