Just watched the reboot/new
"Roadhouse"
Omfg... if you have any love/80s nostalgia for the original.. save yourself the pain of seeing your hero's become cartoons.
I will for the record say the reboot of "white men cant jump" is actually really well brought up to date and as much as I wanted to hate them for trying... it was good.
There are sooo many rehashes and fucking with our memories... I'd like to see them stop.

I watched it earlier to.
I thought Gyllenhaal was good and very likeable but the same sadly cannot be said for Connor McGregor who proved to be the weakest link in the film and was more annoying than menacing.
Some of the fight editing was rather odd to - quick cut and a bit disorienting I felt.
As regards reboots - I’m most excited for an Escape From New York/LA sequel that is presently being talked about and will (it is rumoured) bring back Kurt Russel as the iconic, Snake Plissken   |

Because there is an almost complete lack of originality or writing talent in Hollywood. They are so risk averse, they would rather tap into nostalgia than take a chance on building a new world/character. It's also why most sequels fail. They have meetings about 'what did people like about the last one' and then *JUST* fill the sequels with those bits, often omitting plot and character arcs. |

I was looking forward to roadhouse sad to hear it isn't all that, but considering the source material it wasn't going to happen.
What I am looking forward to isn't a reboot its Gladiator which has been filmed and waiting for release.

The Italian Job remake is one that springs to mind, the makers should never be allowed into the UK again.
They were looking to remake Cinema Paradiso in the 90’s with the lad from Home Alone. Luckily they had second thoughts (or couldn’t get the financial backing) as that would’ve been a travesty.  |

You can probably count on less than one hand successful remakes. While on the other hand the poor remakes the list is endless.
This is especially so when Hollywood attempts remakes of what they call foreign films.
The remakes more the often miss the nuances and themes of the original.
The Vanishing
City of Angels
Alfie
Taxi
The Wicker Man
To name a few…
Their homegrown offerings don’t do any better…
Psycho
Ben Hur - which was a remake of a remake
RoboCop
Point Break
Rollerball

I couldn’t agree more, to the point where I refuse to watch rehashes/reboots.
The only one I can think of I prefer is the Thomas Crown Affair. But that’s because I saw the rehash first and have a man crush on Pierce Brosnan (he is my favourite Bond). |

The reboot of Dune was a vastly superior pair of films than the original David Lynch version.
Ocean’s Eleven was also much better than the Rat Pack original.
But those tend to be the exception rather than the rule |

As an amateur screenwriter I find reboots very annoying!
There are so many writers out there, writing incredible films that are new and exciting, that never have their work produced because of all of the industry roadblocks.
Reboots are less risky and already come with a guaranteed audience, so they will keep churning them out at the expense of original films. |

The much talked about Highlander reboot is now officially a go with Henry Cavil confirmed in the role of Connor MacLeod.
I’m not exactly excited….
On the other hand, had they have gone for a sequel rather than a remake/reboot with Cavil playing a different immortal (as the TV series opted to with Adrian Paul playing Duncan MacLeod - a fellow immortal clansman) I would have been far happier. |

My Thai boxing instructor did some of Christopher Lamberts sword work in the original. If you look he his tartan outfit at the shoulder was really wide. It bc my instructor was stood behind him.
I also worked on the fighte jet that flew over in the last few seconds of the film |

I haven't watched it. Though I do think Jake gyllenhall is an incredible actor.
Personally I am completely sick to death of reboots and remakes and sequels to long dead franchises.
That seems to be all there is these days. Almost no one is making anything original and that is why Barbie and Oppenheimer did so well last year.
I don't understand why people seem to think that remaking something is somehow original! While it may contain some original ideas, at best these films are just standing on the shoulders of giants. |

It was such a wonderful concept for a film.
The sequels have been a very mixed affair though 
I used to know someone who worked in the carpentry department on the original; he reported what a lovely chap Clancy Brown (The Kurgen) was in real life |

I enjoyed the Peter Jackson remake of King Kong but yeah most reboots are unnecessary. I've a feeling its only a matter of time before The Terminator franchise gets rebooted without Arnie.
Messing with franchise timelines annoy me too. When you have Directors coming out and saying "oh ignore films 3 and 4 this film takes place after 2. This is a new story"

I’ll preface this by stating again that I’m not generally a fan of the principle of remakes….
but….I will admit that there are two that I am really looking forward to and both on the same theme - namely vampires.
The delayed Salem’s Lot remake (technically a second remake after the 2004 Rob Lowe one); It’s been shelved for a seeming eternity despite good test screening results and even an endorsement from Stephen King himself. It’s apparently now bypassing theatres altogether and will instead stream in Max sometime later this year.
The other one is the (again - second) remake of Nosferatu after Werner Herzog remade the 1922 original silent classic in 1979 starring the late Klaus Kinski.
This new one opens next year and stars Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlok with Willem Defoe Dafoe as an apparently unhinged vampire hunter |

I hear you man, but it is all about the word, it seems that we are going through a change and remakes are the way to go.
Dare I say that Roadhouse is a Trump movie in the same style as Rambo Last Blood.
As in the forgotten rise up through a new leader and get back what they believe they have a right to.
But may be this question is for the political slot. |

I’m a fan of the original Roadhouse, I’m giving this remake a miss though as it’s looks trash
Regarding remakes, I’ve been guilty of gate keeping but at the end of the day these types of movies are nothing more than money making franchises for film companies. For the most part they don’t care about our attachments/fandom. These remakes are not done for the art only to make money |

What I really object to are the almost immediate reboots of foreign language films.
It's implying that english speaking audiences (particularly north American) are incapable of reading subtitles.
They are always vastly inferior.
Take "old boy" for example.
The American remake was such absolute bloody mess of a film despite having good actors cast in it, compared with the original Korean film. |

A good example of a remake I can think of is Scorsese's "cape fear".
Enough time between that and the original black and white had passed to redo it. Plus I like how the 2 leads from the original were cast in minor roles as older actors.. |

Agree. Can’t people just watch movies with subtitles? The Old Boy remake was atrocious and completely pointless. The only positive example I can think of is the departed was made from the infernal affairs script/storyboard but mostly the American remakes are trash |

Scarface was a great remake of the 1939 film but when Brian De Palma made the remake it was done with a artistic intent of making a great movie. It’s the last 10-15 years when film companies said let’s just cash in on our franchises |
