Somewhere In The Ether…

Being a really boring bastard as I am, I derive great pleasure from shaving.

Indeed, I find it a highly relaxing pastime and love the feeling of a subsequently really smooth face.

Good chaps; For those of you who regularly shave (non intimately I imply), what type of razor do you use?

Do you prefer shaving gel or else oil (or something else)?

Alternatively, perhaps you have a curious proclivity to hack at it raw like a lumberjack?

All things shaving related in fact; please discuss this wondrous activity and let’s make the ladies green with envy (maybe)

Well now - as we're talking specifics..

Any three+ bladed swivel head razor, Fusion is often a favourite, with the grain to start, then against.

In terms of lube, I have good body oils on my face, so I get a better shave with just hot water there most of the time, but my neck is drier so I tend to use gel, not foam or shaving soap.

No brand preference - it doesn't alter the outcome.

Almost always in the mornings too, because my skin is more relaxed after sleeping.

I also do the with grain/against grain technique

Different areas of the face/chin/neck require different angles of blade glide to get that really close shave.

I can spend a fair bit of time shaving strategically

I've used a cut-throat razor for years. Real old fashioned one that needs stropping. Badger bristle brush and soap.

Only on my face though. Never for manscaping. I'm not that brave/stupid.

You need some motivational shaving music on to make it more fun.

Yup - trickiest part for me is where the chin meets the underside of the jaw.

So many contours, and bristles growing in different directions, I either have to decide to skimp a bit, not skimp but risk a cut, or slow the while thing down enormously to make it thorough and silky smooth.

Then, as soon as I'm feeling self-satisfied, I put the aftershave on for that sudden quick pain to bring me back down to earth .

They are fine as long as you keep on top of the edge.

I found it easier to use when shaving my legs when I got tattooed compared to a normal razor. (Apart from the back of the knee!)

As a side question: Have any of you allowed/trusted a partner to shave you?

I did once….and likely never again!

She went at it like a butcher; scared the hell out of me it did! I had visions of my skin being hacked off like a potato peeler!

I used to let my kids shave me, from the age of 5 upwards. The eldest achieved perfection almost every time, the middle one was great on the face but struggled on the neck, and the youngest consistently managed Tarantino levels of gore everywhere.

We gave up after a few weeks .

A few partners accepted the challenge too...one was great, another two not so much .
