I read something that suggested that popular girl's names tend to rise and fall with generations, whereas boy's names tend to stick around longer. There are certainly exceptions and perhaps boy's names are longer trends, but I don't think there's quite a male equivalent of 70's Jennifer and 80s/90s Elizabeth/Louise. (One of my oldest relatives took the absolute piss out of my mother for my name, because she associated it with the Victorian era - but it was hugely popular in my area among my generation) |
