It's not a compliment, it's an imposition on someone's personal space and sense of security. It's rude and it objectifies the person it's aimed at. In their mind, on some level, they perceive that they've been identified as a target of some sort, and all sorts of instinctive fight or fight reflexes are activated. That's not a nice feeling.
Why do so many men just not get this? |

Yes some women do like it, the problem is that the men doing it can't tell that. |

"I can’t wolf whistle - I sound like an ahsmatic seal when I try x
I've got a mental image of you slapping your arms together, your head back, going "urhh urhh urhh" as a woman walks past! "
Isn’t that foreplay ? x |

"Ah yes. The ultimate compliment.
"You look like a viable orifice." Without the rigmarole of using actual human words.
It just doesn't get any more complimentary "
Those actual words are such an aphrodisiac though |

I can’t remember a time I’ve been around other men and one of them has wolf whistled at anyone. I just don’t think it’s done anymore.
However in the gay village in Manchester (last July I remember as it was my Birthday) I did have someone wolf whistle at me. Not sure if it was a compliment or sarcastic one, I’ll take it as a compliment. I just won’t condone it in real life. |

When I was younger it felt like a threat. Like I was being hunted. Not, you're attractive, but I can have you if I want to because I'm such a big man (as others have said, it's a thing men tend to do in front of their friends).
I'm very glad to be reaching a point in my life where I'm largely invisible. I don't particularly care if someone in the street finds me attractive, I've got shit to do - and if they do find me attractive, there are less demeaning ways of doing it. |
