"Very old age, but then again would not be that old by today's standards "
'Old _obilebottom died today. But he'd had a good time on Earth - he was fully five-and-fifty when the good Lord took him to his reward.' |

I've given this some serious thought. Thought about the type of woman I am, how easily swayed I can be by certain things. My rather free spirit sexually. My feminist views. And daddy issues.
I would have, undoubtedly, fallen victim to a massive patriarchal phallic stake through the heart after my predilection for older men, particularly with accents caught up with me.
It would have been worth it though. |

"Rotting in a sanatorium.
Why would you be in there in the first place?
For being an emotional, histrionic woman. "
Or, as we would say now, a woman not taken seriously by society and reacting appropriately. |

So...you're saying you die because you fucked Dracula and had to be staked? |

Yeah but it'll have to be by a fuck off huge stake to really drive through the point of patriarchy battling the evil feminine vampire whore I'd become. |

But those gothic novels are famously subtle and under-stated. Still, if anyone's vampire whoredom could push the form to melodrama, it would be yours. |

Love the compliment, really do. Going to screenshot it, print it and fame it.
Gothic literature featured heavily in my Masters. This might not be a discussion you want to have at almost 11pm on a Tuesday night. :D
I'd argue that there's subtlety surrounding the horror themes, it's not quite the torture porn contemporary film seems to love. Was Holmwood's staking of Lucy subtle? No. It really, really wasn't. I'm going to rein it in though. |

Dracula or gothic literature in general? I honestly don't know that much about classic gothic literature, I'm a scam artist. I've read Frankenstein, Dracula, bits of The Monk, The Mysteries of Udolpho, some Poe and The Woman in White. But your knowledge will far out-strip mine. |

"I'd open the door that I'm not meant to.
J
But what would be behind it that would see you off?
No one knows for sure. But my disappearance would be whispered of in hushed tones as a warning.
J"
That's a kind of immortality though. Could be worse. |

In general. Well, not exactly. We'll discuss this over hot chocolate/whatever. Have you watched Flanagan's The Fall Of The House Of Usher? It's honestly a fantastic contemporary Gothic take on Poe. The references, the clever usage of colour to identify characters and their sins, the subtle dread that builds with the soundtrack, the clever Schrödinger's guns scattered through out. It's so good. |

I haven't watched it yet but it's very much on my list. I'll bump it up the list thanks to your recommendation. Most of the Poe adaptations I know are the Roger Corman/Vincent Price ones. |

Oh, I'd like to throw in an endorsement for Flanagan's Fall of the House of Usher as well. Some great performances, but none better, to my mind, than Mark Hamill. He really is a wonderful character actor. That aside, this was a wonderful modern adaptation. |

"Well, it's clear, alas, that after daybreak I'd be staked in my ornate casket and my head cut off by Abraham Van Helsing. Sigh.
Darn."
Well, we've all got to go somehow. Might as well be spectacular about it. |

Damn right! I always fancied myself as one of the brides of Dracula.
When they got their teeth into Giles in Buffy vs Dracula, he wanted to go back to retrieve his shoe. |
