Last week we were priviledged to attend the welcome home parade of the boys and girls of 2RRF after their turn of duty in Afghanistan.
You read and hear about war in the media, in books, in your history lessons at school but you never expect to be part of it.
It was so strange, but an honour, to witness the boys and girls coming back from war .... very touching indeed.
Regardless of the politics, the rights and wrongs of the Iraq / Afghanistan conflict, lets share a thought for those who returned, and those who wern't so lucky .... |

I am not sure just how many servicemen and women are members of this site but totally unsolicited threads like this bring a smile to the face of folk, like me who wear a military uniform.
Folk who for what ever reason have decided that a life in the military is the right thing for them really appreciate words like these.
35 years on, with a couple more to go I still love what I do. Not going to big it up as I have never been a boot on the ground but the boots dont get there if I and guys like me don't take them
For those of you who have kind things to say we thank you and for those of you who do not, well thats why we do what we do, to give you the right to disagree without fear of retribution

Both myself and jase have been boots on the ground and yes sometimes it feels a thankless task so yes it lifts your spirits when you actually hear the thanks from those at home. I lost my husband to PTSD 3 years ago and the support i had from SSAFA etc was phenominal, so also a huge thanks to them.
And a huge thanks to those at home who support the troops - well done especially the village of wootten basset - total heros xx |

"a true hero is the men who is returned to this country with a shattered body and will spend the rest of his life like that."
They all deserve our thoughts and best wishes and I hope they all get all the help that they need.
off topic Im afraid but have your mates in the Forces seen you in the pink bra???? |

I'm with them 100%
The only thing i cant understand is why we need a charity like "Help the Heros"
Because the bloody government should be paying as much as it takes to insure those soldiers who have come back injured or not get looked after properly and given the support they so richly deserve.
Rather than taking them to court to try and reclaim some compensation back.....B'tards

This country has always treated its soldiers crap. They should remember memorials and parades are fab but they dont put bread in your families mouth when you come back injured and disabled. They need a Ministry for Veterans Affairs (independant of the MOD) like many countries have |

it is also very special to see the public line the streets when we would parade through our local town, makes you know you have actually came home, and all the homesickness was actually worth it all, not too mention other people take the time to say welcome back

Heard a young guy on the radio yesterday, he's joining the Army, and leaving a job as a tyre fitter.
Here's the bad bit................he's taking a £150 pounda A WEEK pay cut to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
£1200 take home a month..................
thats what some of those young men get, for risking their lives day after day.
Now look up your local MP on the internet, and check out what he or she earns....... sickening, isnt it?
Then there is that pillock of a government Minister who said his employees (who worked in immigration) are "brave" and put their "lives on the line".... WTF?
And they get over £27, 000 a year!!! |

Unfortunately, anyone in the Military would be in trouble if they were seen entering a swingers club in uniform.
However, why not ask your local clubs if they would let them in for £1 if they show their Military/Army card?
I'll put it to Nick at Chameleons if someone else want's to do the other clubs.

We don't intend to go to the club now until well into the New Year but I'll get Tez to have a word and I'll speak to Nick on the telephone about it.
Even if it was only once a week, or once a fortnight....... it would be start and may get other clubs doing it! |
