We’re having a cheese board!

What cheeses do you recommend?

I’m so damn hungry!

(Anyone that says knob cheese - get thee to the helmet cheese thread.)

All over

Well not easy to pick one or two. Generally like hard cheeses like comte, gruyere, kefalotyri, manchego etc. But also love a good brie, gongonzola, blue cheese and of course feta

Perpignan and cap

I've educated my french friends on the wonderful cheeses that the UK has to offer. I also had a long running cheese off with a Francophile that couldn't agree that France don't make the best cheeses (in my opinion). Here's my top picks for what its worth:

1) Cheddar

2) Wensleydale

3) Stilton

4) Red Lester

5) feta

6) Gorgonzola

7) Brie (but it's got to be good brie).

8) Parmesan

Abondance

Reblochon

"I got a small cheese and wine hamper for Christmas.

I've just seen the price of it and for £70 I'd have wanted a lot more cheese.

I got a nice little hamper I can store stuff in though.

St Leonards

There are very few I don't like...cheese is yum.

But at the top would be:

Camembert - slightly overripe.

Brie - just before overripe.

Very mature cheddar - needs to irritate the gums.

But the very, very top:

St Nectaire. Eat it whilst it's "stretchy, elastic" rather than firm or gooey. Fills your gob with a creamy, slightly mushroomy dance of happiness.

If you've never tried it - give it a go. But let it get to stretchy...that's the temperature where all the flavours and textures get released. Lots going on with it - needs to be tried because my words can't do it justice.

Just cheeses. Lots of cheeses. The cheesiest cheese you can find!

I’m doing my family Christmas dinner today - better late than never! We are having cheddar, Stilton, Brie, Wensleydale with cranberries, and a soft garlic herby one I cannot spell. With an assortment of cheese crackers, some chutneys, and grapes.

You raise a great point about supplementary sides. Grapes, hummus and flatbreads would be my choice
