What made you decide that facial hair was a good call? Was it because a beard is cool? Peer pressure? Couldn't be arsed to shave? Some other reason?

I hated the idea of even having stubble until my 30s. Then for a reason I don't remember I wasn't able to shave for a few days and I liked it. Eventually it grew into a beard. Then women started telling me that it suited me and I should keep it. So I mostly have. Occasionally I shave it off and then look in the mirror and am reminded of why I grew it in the first place.

So, the lesson I've learned is that the more of my face can't be seen, the better I look

I couldn’t be bollocksed with shaving, had facial hair for nearly 40 years now.

I’d feel naked without it.

Lots of people have tried to persuade me to remove it over the years but it ain’t goin’ nowhere.

It’s who I am

Was able to grow one when i was 17, made it easy to get served without ID.

Then i thought i looked too young without it when i was early 20's.. eventually just decided i look better with one So had one ever since... and trust me its a lot easier to just have a shave than it is to keep a beard

I couldn't be arsed shaving about 7 years ago when I was ill and grew a beard for the first time ever.

Shaved it off after a few months but regretted doing so and grew it all over again.

It was the final piece in the jigsaw of the new me and nothing to do with trends or fads.

Always hated shaving. So I've always been stubbly as I'd only be arsed to shave about twice a week. Then got a job where I needed to be a bit smarter so rather than just shaving twice a week I just grew it out a bit. People seemed to react differently to me at work, women liked it, which was surprising to me as conventional wisdom back then was women don't like hairy guys. And people complimented me on it. So it was a bit of a no brainer.

I hate shaving. Always had, especially in the old days of collar and tie office decorum. But I also don’t like beards. So I would not shave for 2 or 3 days. Now that I’m older, semi retired those days can be a week. However, when I now shave after this length of time I get bad red blotches all over my face - razor burn I think. The only way round it is to shave more regularly… did I mention I hate shaving

I’ve had facial hair almost my entire adult life. I quickly realised when I started shaving that I got terrible shaving rash and ingrown hairs, and nothing I tried to combat it worked. So, I just grew it out and now keep long stubble permanently.

The shame of it is I look much, much sexier when clean shaven. Ho hum.

I had those often since 1992.

(Yes, I started to shave at age 12)

I discovered the solution for that last year.

Have a shave and a shower, then put the aftershave on.

The aftershave caused it straight after shaving, not the razor.

Might not work for you, but worth a try.

Paper Town Central, Essex.

It was originally grown as a prop for the musical, Fiddler On The Roof, that I participated in. Everyone said it suited me, so it stayed.

Have shaved it a couple of times when the trimming went wrong and got told I looked older for it, so now it stays.

‘Big Razor’ has you pretty much by the balls from an early age, you shave Monday to Friday for work and then have the weekend off from it, but then there’s woman so you have to on a Saturday too.

After a while between the shaving and the stuff used to recover from hacking your face to bits, you think nah.

Grow a beard, it actually that looks okay, then you realise the extent of pogonophobia and that somehow people think you’re hiding your face.

You’re sticking it to ‘big razor’ not trying to hide face or scare people, but then you join a site like this and realise that facial hair is basically not gonna get you anywhere and grudgingly start shaving again for to go to things and meet people.

Anyways I’ll need to look in the grooming section of that big chemist again for the moisturising stuff that works..

"Bearded folks.

What made you decide that facial hair was a good call? Was it because a beard is cool? Peer pressure? Couldn't be arsed to shave? Some other reason?

Non bearded folks.

What made you decide that facial hair was a bad plan? Peer pressure? Was it just too warm in there one summer? You've always shaved? Some other reason?

I mean... I'm mainly aiming this at the dudes. But it goes out to anyone...

Posh I go from one to another it's a phase or can't be arsed kinda thing.

In my younger days I was referred to as "catweazle"

More recently its been more of a goatee thing but then it gets itchy and the land of smooth returns

In a cycle then"

Indeed but I must watch out for the spokes

"I’ve had facial hair almost my entire adult life. I quickly realised when I started shaving that I got terrible shaving rash and ingrown hairs, and nothing I tried to combat it worked. So, I just grew it out and now keep long stubble permanently.

The shame of it is I look much, much sexier when clean shaven. Ho hum.

You look sexier?

HOW?

Oh stop…..!

In growing hairs are a swine

Especially on the balls… "

Oh LB yes and you have to be very accurate with the tweezers

I’ve always wanted a beard from when I could grow one. Mostly because in school all the girls liked it. And back then I would care what would get me the girls. I did go clean shaven for a bit at about 17. Then ever since I’ve kept it. I have cut it and left the moustache before a few times but I only really like that look when my hair is short. With an Afro I look like I’m coming out of a different era

For me it started off as I had to be clean shaven from teens. To know laziness

My beard is cheaper than numerous face lifts to raise my chest hair up to my chin x

My face looks like a stretched ballsack without it.

"I can’t afford razors.

Flick knife?"

I just rub my chin against the rough bark of a tree.
