What type of hob are you cooking with?
Jump to: Newest in thread
For years we’ve been “cooking on gas” we got used to it & really liked the speed & how easy to control it is.
We’ve been 2 years without in a new flat, which is a gas less building, we have a very basic electric hob which we’re not enjoying, but don’t know whether to buy a better one or try something different.
Friends of ours have a cheap induction one which they love but, having cooked on it if you move or lift up the pans it switches off.
Other than gas what hob are you cooking with & are you happy with it?
Thanks in advance. |

Induction is good. Most pots seem to work with it but you might need new pots to make it work. |

Personally I cook with gas but I've experience with all types of hob.
Your best bet is induction hob but....
You may also need new pans and don't buy a cheap induction hob.
They are very safe if you have children. They also, effectively, give you another work surface when not in use.
Hope this helps a little...

Yes helps a lot, thanks everybody think we might go go or induction, are current pans are suitable. Is it a straight swap for ceramic to induction without any added work do you know? |

Some kind of electric one that was installed in the house when we moved in February. We've come from a gas only house but we actually like this hob and oven (both electric). The oven is RAPID! I'll look up the brand if you want..... |

It's a straight swap and actually uses less power. For the safety side of things, it may be worth getting your cooker breaker checked. It may benefit from down rating rather than up rating.
A good induction hob pulses the power going to it rather than be on all the time. The expensive ones use half the power of a standard electric hob.
Ceramics have also come a long way too but they're not instantly controllable but inductions are.
Halogen hobs can use any pans as well, and they're fairly controllable. |

I have been living at house for 41 years. First had gas hob. Then when needed changing could not replace due to gas regulations. So went to induction. Since then kitchen moved to another area. Could have gone back to gas again. Decided not worth hassle. Found induction hob really good for cooking . |
