I heard on news this morning that Iceland (not the food place lol) are looking to introduce a ban on the certain types of pornography you can watch on line - BDSM - ABUSE - VIOLENCE
Now baring in mind the site we all on here at FAB and what get to see/view on occasions....Whats your views on this subject
1. Should on line pornography be banned
2. do we need to limit the type of porn we can watch?
3.How do we police it
Yeah Yeah i know this is a heavy subject for me...but it sort caught my attention this morning

Any pornography between consenting adults is fine with me but anything with apparently abusive or forced elements leaves me cold. There is a great deal to be said for an internet free of censorship but there is a real worry (for me) that this DOES lead to the normalisation of unsavoury acts in some minds. |

"As long as there isn't horse in it
as long as no kids or animals in it whats wrong?we all adults .they get paid a fair wage these days thes porn stars and they sure look like Tay have fun making it.what next they be taxing us or banging us from making our own porn films or taking pics .lol.bad pervy poppy porns biggest fan. "
That's the trouble, nobody fucking THINKS
Oh I know, I'll say "as long as there are no kids and animals" and I'll be safe and respectable and upstanding.
then someone moves the goalposts legally and that old Daily Star the workmen found featuring a semi naked 16 year old chick comes into play, and you get done for possessing child pornography.
Of course people are stupid and would rather not THINK, which is why we end up in a police state, let someone else worry about it, until you are the one at the thin end of the wedge.
Here are two statements, both true, whatever LAW you choose has to apply equally to both on principle, or it is not LAW, just oppression.
1/
the speed limit in the UK is 70, clarkson goes to germany and gets filmed doing 140 on the autobahn, on his return to the uk he is not prosecuted because what he did was legal there, and he did not do it here.
2/
the age of consent is 16 (or 18 if there is a position of authority) in the UK, clarkson goes to mexico and has consesual sex with a 15 year old whore, which is legal there, so he is not prosecuted there, he returns to the uk and even though he did not commit a crime here, he is convicted of being a paedophile.
no animals? better ban most middle eastern culture, oh, and shakespeare, midsummer nights dream was all about bestiality.
I could quote Neimoller at you but it would go right over your heads, and you'd be the first and loudest to wail when our lifestyle becomes branded illegal |

It's difficult. The porn industry is often not kind to women, from what I've read. Eg a woman will show up thinking she's doing a particular scene, but the producers will then tell her she has to do more extreme stuff or she won't get paid. It's not as simple as consenting adults - coercion happens.
But stopping people from viewing porn...I don't know how that can ever work. Pirate bay got banned in the UK and its very easy to still access it. |

1. Should on line pornography be banned
No, it's impossible to
2. do we need to limit the type of porn we can watch?
Yes, but thats not because it's porn but the people who would watch it, child images etc
3.How do we police it
You can't police it on consumption, you can only go after the suppliers
Yeah Yeah i know this is a heavy subject for me...but it sort caught my attention this morning

Godwins law in action right there... No need to be condescending to get your point about the international nature of the internet across.
In reply to OP - It's a really interesting debate and one where the politicians and law makers can't keep up with technology. While admirable in their aims laws like this I feel are being passed and put forward too hastily with no real idea how to enforce them without massive privacy and free speech invasions.
The two best questions in this thread in my opinion are - How would it be policed? and Why focus on the consumption of this material rather than the supply? |

"1. Should on line pornography be banned"
Logistically impossible.
"2. do we need to limit the type of porn we can watch?"
See 1.
"3.How do we police it"
See Great_Firewall#Technical_implementation
The *only* thing taxpayer money should be paid into regarding this topic is a more thorough education about the difference between *fantasy* and *reality*.
^ Is my view |

But the great firewall can still be bypassed - While in China I regularly saw people using VPN's and the Tor network to get round it.
Agree with the point on education 100% and I would also include education on how to use the internet properly and safely. |

"I think any censorship is bad
Steve"
Really? You think there's nothing wrong with extreme sex or violence shown at any time of day on the TV?
That people in the media should be allowed to say/print anything, no matter how obscene or bigoted or hateful? |

I do feel that minors can access online porn in an almost Wild West unregulated manner and to combat that I think legislation should be applied that requires any website that features pornography should be run under the .xxx domain extension. This would make it much easier for netnanny software to filter porn out. There should be harsh penalties for website owners who break this rule, and it should be worldwide. |

"While the xxx idea has some traction, should places like lovefilm have to be on that domain due to films like 9 songs?"
LoveFilm can put adult films behind a .xxx domain and link to it. IT would still be filtered out by netnanny software but it's non-adult films would be let through. Or a film can carry a Triple X rating, which would be simpler to implement. |
