So, who thinks the whole vampire thing is a turn-on, and why?

I do think vampires can be sexy (coming from a woman who loves horror films and masks this will be of little surprise).
I went into great detail about this with a fora user recently; the zeitgeist being reflected in the depiction, the changing nature/appearance of them. It's only really in the Victorian era that vampires became sexy. A relief offered against the rather repressed societal norms. Vampires were once these rather awful bloated reincarnated corpses; having your life drained by one of those isn't quite as arousing is it?
I like that juxtaposition between the feral, primal nature and the cold smoothness, class of the facade. That composure contrasting with the inner turmoil of having a lust, a need for something. It lends itself well to my love of having people break their calmness, the way someone's eyes darken when they're wanting me.
I like desire when it's... intoxicating.

There’s quite a lot of love for the fanged ones on here, which is interesting.
For me, one of the most compulsive attractions of the various depictions of vampires is the compulsion…the irresistible desire that one engenders in another to surrender to an irresistible power. And of course the forbidden, taboo nature of that surrender, of that use.
I think my own personal favourite vampire film is Tony Scott’s 1983 picture ‘The Hunger’ with Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon and…David Bowie.
Deneuve’s vampire, an ancient creature but beautiful, irresistibly sexual, unknowable and exquisitely aloof, is utterly compelling. |
