I have a list of films I never caught back then. I never saw Dirty Dancing until fairly recently, I was forced to by a woman and I bore it ok.. I never saw Top Gun either despite going to the pics at least once every week most of my teens.

Jaws
I did start to watch it when I was a lot younger but at the time I was to scared. Watch it recently and as far as I am concerned it still a good film.
Ps I did laugh at the scene where they're all smoking in the hospital. |

"What year is this?!?
He is only 36, still just a baby
She was old enough to watch it in the cinema. I didn't get that chance"
.
It's been released a few times I expect, and with a 'directors cut' too (though I don't know why he did this really.)
I took a kid to an arts cinema to see it once, and even though the whole screen suddenly shifted upwards for about 20 mins (ie so half the screen was black - but not the projectionists fault apparently) she still loved it.

Yeah. Seen clips but never sat down and watched it. That bit where the bikes just take off, WOW!!"
It used to be a great ride at Universal.
I only saw Top Gun last year so I guess I can’t laugh. |

The Fog is the 1980 John Carpenter classic, The Mist is something more recent it seems.

I saw the European premiere of E.T. at the Edinburgh Film Festival. There was no advance publicity no even a poster.
Three thousand of us watched the film on a huge screen and gave it a standing ovation. One of my favourite cinema memories |

I went to the pics every week, and with the choice around I rarely saw a bad film.
My biggest regret now was missing Withnail and I, which I'd love to say I'd seen! I actually put it off to the following week (there was always choice) but despite a glowing review by Barry Norman on Film 85 or whatever, it only had a 2 week run! No one expected it to become the cult film that it did of course. It's a good watch in the cinema too - all the classics get re-released eventually. I had to wait till it was on Channel 4 a year or two later.

I think there were a number of films like these that were literally shown every year, certainly in the 70's. In the end people complained, and then a lot of them were never shown for a generation if not longer.
Sky came along in the 90's, and now of course those type of films are not necessarily terrestrial-owned.
I used to bunk off from school to watch Humphry Bogart films, 40's/50's musicals, the original romcoms (screwballs), and golden age film noirs.
How do you come by those films now? You have to travel to discover them, when back in the day they were just there for you on the telly. Like classic b/w scifi on BBC 2 after tea.

First of all, thank you! Phew, finally a film I can say I've seen and join everyone else in the 'how haven't you seen that?' club.
Mission Impossible is an amazing franchise. The characters, the missions, the music, the stunts (especially in the newer films). It very much is worth the commitment - the hours will fly through and you'll be looking forward to the next film (unfortunately delayed to 2025 ) as soon as you're done! |

I'll put it next to Wall-e in my need to watch kids film list. I do actually like a very good kids film a la ET.
Surprised films like Labyrinth, Legend, Gremlins, Stand By Me, the Princess Bride and Neverending Story haven't been mentioned yet tbh. Back to the Future too. Are we just talking about any 80's films? I can't remember! pt |

I watched the 1954 film On The Waterfront starring Marlon Brando a couple of years ago. The famous line...
"I could have been somebody. I could have been a contender."
...is one I've heard quoted many times but now I know the context. It's a great film and I highly recommend it.
I also watched the classic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon last year. I thought that was weird. Luke |
