Now that the run up to spooky season is well underway I've been watching a few "seasonal" films to get me in the mood.

I watched "the crow" today and it has a nice grungy/goth feel to it. Made me think, what other Gothtastic movies are out there. I'm not looking for a list of horror films for Halloween, just ones that give of that delicious velvety vibe.

Van Helsing film was underrated. Shame it did not do well at the cinema at the time. It's aged well though and worth another look.

Transsexual Transylvania

Well, obviously, "The Crow".

Also

Bram Stoker's Dracula

Interview With The Vampire

From Hell

Shadow of the Vampire

Frankenstein

Quills

Penny Dreadful (TV series - but it has that vibe)

That'll do to start.

Not Hammer this time, but Roman Polanski’s classic, Dance Of The Vampire (aka The Fearless Vampire Killers) is also another gothic masterpiece

Roger Corman made a series of films in the 60s based on Poe short stories (and one HP Lovecraft novella) starring Vincent Price in all but one. My personal favourites of the series are Masque of the Red Death, Tomb of Ligeia and The Haunted Palace (which is actually Lovecraft's Charles Dexter Ward), but many people put Fall Of The House of Usher and Pit and the Pendulum at the top. Whichever, they are all extremely gothic.

It’s a timeless modern classic

Simultaneously beautiful and tragic (both onscreen and off).

I'm currently watching Dracula's Daughter - a 1936 sequel to the Lugosi film. Some of the sequences are very gothic and there are some obvious lesbian undertones to the film which were quite daring for the time.

"Lost boys is still an all time favourite as is interview with a vampire and queen of the damned was hugely under rated IMHO

I'm showing my age aren't I?

House of 1000 corpses too xx

House of 1000 corpses is a great bad film. Dr Evil was a very gothic character. They should have made a film about him

"Sleepy Hollow and Let the Right One In.

The Woman in Black is good too. I'd love to see the stage show of that.

Oh I went to see The Woman in Black at the fortune theatre in London, we had a box overlooking the stage from the right with pretty much total view of the stage.. we had a 1ltr carafe of red wine and it was brilliant

We went to a great restaurant for food afterwards: Sarastro, on Drury Lane.

The toilets are a total mind blower!! "

Sounds like the perfect night out. Very intrigued by the toilets lol

The walls in the toilets are covered in line drawings depicting outrageous sex acts and graphic writing describing very rude activities. When I say covered, I mean covered. It isn’t really graffiti. It is part of the decor!

"Well, obviously, "The Crow".

Also

Bram Stoker's Dracula

Interview With The Vampire

From Hell

Shadow of the Vampire

Frankenstein

Quills

Penny Dreadful (TV series - but it has that vibe)

That'll do to start."

Started watching "from Hell" last night. Love a bit of Alan Moore. League of extraordinary gentlemen is also a great gothic watch.

It's a very clever film. Great use of the Victorian literary characters.I like the way Alan Moores graphic novels have a Historical link. V for Vendetta is an amazing story.

Seeing as Roger Corman has just died, going to mention again the series of Poe (and one Lovecraft) adaptations he did in the 60s, mostly starring Vincent Price. The Masque of the Red Death, Tomb of Ligeia and The Haunted Palace are my favourites of the bunch.

I did not know Roger Corman had died. Maybe one of the London Indie cinemas will run a Corman season to honour his work.

"Underworld "

My brother bought a bootleg DVD of this from the man down the pub. The subtitles were hilarious as someone had just typed up what they heard. I have never seen it in its "uncontaminated" state.
