Now that the run up to spooky season is well underway I've been watching a few "seasonal" films to get me in the mood.
I watched "the crow" today and it has a nice grungy/goth feel to it. Made me think, what other Gothtastic movies are out there. I'm not looking for a list of horror films for Halloween, just ones that give of that delicious velvety vibe.

Well, obviously, "The Crow".
Also
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Interview With The Vampire
From Hell
Shadow of the Vampire
Frankenstein
Quills
Penny Dreadful (TV series - but it has that vibe)
That'll do to start. |

Ohhh, have to love classic Hammer horror. The Buffy episode "Buffy vs Dracula" actually pays beautiful homage to those. |

I remember that episode - brilliantly done
Not Hammer this time, but Roman Polanski’s classic, Dance Of The Vampire (aka The Fearless Vampire Killers) is also another gothic masterpiece |

Roger Corman made a series of films in the 60s based on Poe short stories (and one HP Lovecraft novella) starring Vincent Price in all but one. My personal favourites of the series are Masque of the Red Death, Tomb of Ligeia and The Haunted Palace (which is actually Lovecraft's Charles Dexter Ward), but many people put Fall Of The House of Usher and Pit and the Pendulum at the top. Whichever, they are all extremely gothic. |

OK, the craft is still a gothy film so I'll allow it. Trying to focus on the romantic, dark and brooding vibe. Quite a good "teen film" too. |

Id go with Gothic. Its a not so well known batshit crazy Ken Russell movie based on Mary Shelly's experiences writing Frankenstein.
Or Coppollas Dracula from 92. One of the most beautiful horror movies of all time. Just ignore Keanu Reeves accent |

It’s a timeless modern classic
Simultaneously beautiful and tragic (both onscreen and off).
The sequels in my opinion, vary from ok (City Of Angels and Salvation) to utterly pathetic (Wicked Prayer).
Actually, the last one mentioned is undoubtedly one of the worst films I’ve ever sat through and I’ve sat through some cinematic shite in my time |

I'm currently watching Dracula's Daughter - a 1936 sequel to the Lugosi film. Some of the sequences are very gothic and there are some obvious lesbian undertones to the film which were quite daring for the time. |

Yes yes yes yes yes. It's beautiful! Cinematic perfection.
Oh and there's another one which is modern Gothic. I'm saying that's a thing. Small chance it isn't.
Stoker. Directed by Park Chan-Wook who does the most incredible films (check out his catalogue if you've not heard of him before, you won't regret it). It's utterly... fantastic. If you like Lana Del Rey you'll love it. |

Yes, this. With Johnny Depp. ( love him of hate him ) the film was done with lashings of velvety goth. It makes the film.
I also love the steam punk goth of the Penny Dreadfuls .. as for that Eva Green? Well how can anyone be so fantastically beautiful, I hate her… I want to be her…. Except maybe with bigger boobs … but you get my point? |

Oh I went to see The Woman in Black at the fortune theatre in London, we had a box overlooking the stage from the right with pretty much total view of the stage.. we had a 1ltr carafe of red wine and it was brilliant
We went to a great restaurant for food afterwards: Sarastro, on Drury Lane.

The walls in the toilets are covered in line drawings depicting outrageous sex acts and graphic writing describing very rude activities. When I say covered, I mean covered. It isn’t really graffiti. It is part of the decor! |
