Yes, it's a very unfortunate phrase to use as a title but it's also funny.
Anyway. I'm a pretty stoic person in general (not afraid of feelings, just don't emote constantly or expressively). However now and again things crop up be it life situations, talks or messages with friends, or even the odd forum post.
Do you often find yourself being surprised at a softer side to you that rarely sees much action in situations? |

I am an unadulterated war machine. I exist as the final bastion of masculinity and power. I have no soft side. I am darkness incarnate. My real name is The Destroyer of Souls, Eater of Worlds. I bench press 60 ton Main Battle Tanks because nothing else sasiates my hunger.
There is no man greater in power than me. I was banned from the Worlds Strongest Man competition and Strongman championships because of my raw power. |

Your profile status is a bit soppy and I bet you have to bend it like Beckham to fit it in those tight knickers of yours |

Sometimes I scare the shit out of people without words.
I'm actually romantic, but ''fuck like a beast'' (Good song btw).
Gave serenade on the street with an acoustic guitar.
I feed the neighbor's cat while he's on holiday.
Drop 3.5 tears during an emotional movie.
Want to feed all the homeless, but I can't afford it.
Very few people sees it and I don't even hide it.
I'm pretty much honeycomb coated marshmallow.
If I'd be music, then mixture of Gary Moore and W.A.S.P. would describe me best.

Same, I'm not afraid to be soppy with those who I care about and who care about me "

at the the title.- got my attention.
I've seen you comment about stoicism being 'vilified' I think that's fair.
I've had an interest in Ancient greek philosophy. Will sound silly but I learnt the most about stoicism on Dudeist groups and forums years ago. There's a lot of people who take that very seriously on there and many knowledgeable stoics. I'm actually an ordained Dudeist priest, I can conduct marriages in certain states
The central beliefs there (still an ongoing debate) are Epicureanism and Taoism. They resonate a little more for me than Stoicism.
I've learnt that being indifferent is unhelpful to me: being emotionally expressively is what enriches my life. It also gives me greater immediacy in recognising my emotions. Expressing emotions is itself a form of regulation. And one which can build resilience over time.
The reed that bends with the wind will never be uprooted.
So yes I can feel very deeply and be soppy at times. I've cried with people on these forums and for them. I experience huge amounts of empathy.
I'm also at times able to be incredibly emotionally resilient. Expressing ones emotions is not the same as lacking emotional awareness. Being surprised, by ones emotional responses is. I see it as a separation between mind and body and the goal is for the two to be in harmonious accord. Non-duality.
As they used to say on the Dudeist forums. Dude it's ok we all go 'full Walter' sometimes. 'Am I only the one around here who gives a fuck about the rules!!!' |

I am passionate when something means something to me.
Usually I’m middle of the road for a lot of things but when it’s something/someone I feel close to I can be very soppy.
I like tapping into my softer side and I have no problem showing my emotions at all.
I can go down rabbit holes watching soppy stuff on the book of face but can also be stern when needed too.
It’s served me well as I can see things from many view points.

I flip flop between an unfeeling robot to an emotional wreck.
On some occasions I am completely shut off emotionally and find it impossible to empathize.
On other occasions I get way to emotionally invested and can't shut it off.

I emote a lot, but I'm not at all sentimental. So I'd be surprised at myself if I went all soppy at an old babygro from one of my kids or their first tooth. (Yeah I kept them ) |

"I've been drained of emotions.

I feel like that at times.
Others the slightest thing will set me off. Memories popping up on Facey. The wrong tune on the car radio. Other people being happy when I feel shit.
Life is a bloody rollercoaster at times. |

Life has been a pretty tough rollercoaster so I've had to toughen myself but every so often something will set me off.
Go think about a tough break up, then listen to Estranged by Guns N Roses. If you aren't a blubbering mess by the end you must be dead inside. |
