Do you believe in fate?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Destiny or whatever you want to call it.
Do you believe that things happen the way they are supposed to or is everything totally chance ruled by chaos.
I'm not talking about a higher power like God.
But I do believe that the universe decides for us.

I'm not sure, I kind of don't want to....I've had some terrible things happen in my life and I don't think I can understand in any way that it was ment to be, if it was I must have been Hitler in a past life because I dam well sure didn't deserve it.
But....
There are things that make me question it, things that if that didn't happen then this wouldn't and I wouldn't be where I am now.
I still don't know if I can allow myself to think those awful things happened to me for a reason though because no one is that cruel!

I think the universe is intrinsically random but you can change where the randomness is likely to fall on occasions. That’s not what I would consider to be fate though - nothing is preordained (apart from Fab threads blowing up ) |

I sort of do but really hope that the decisions we make do actually have an impact on how everything turns out.
Some of my decision choices have had disastrous results others unexpectedly great! |

"Nope.
I believe in what I can control, everything else just happens. "
But that's what does my nut in.
Everything else that just happens always has an outcome.
I think I need to go and realign my chakras or something.

I believe in something more than we can define. Fate idk, deja view I get so strongly sometimes, so that I can predict without fail the next series of events to take place before me. As if I've lived the moment before, or had premonition... But like I say, Idk if its fate, or reality blending with another universe's time line. Or that we live in a cyclical time line that keeps going around and around.
Perhaps the expansion and disputed contraction of the universe over and again is a thing in which time just repeats itself... Who knows. |

I don't believe either one or other , our destiny is completely comes from our decisions and by everyone else decisions . Everything is interconnected. What i do believe is who is in power usually have more influence in people's lifes , no matter if politicians , kings , Queens ,boss or alfa friend , is part of life nature , survival.
I don't even know what i'm talking about is all nonsense to me |

Until just recently I was in the process of purchasing a house with my now ex. This sale was delay after delay after delay through one thing or another but long story short, those delays saved me from making a huge mistake. I couldnt even imagine the headache if we had exchanged before breaking up and being trapped in that situation. I never believed in the universe interfering but this 100% I do. |

Yes have had many things happen over the years
Most recent was last year I was really low one Saturday night as the ex who had moved out a few months prior after saying she was coming back had changed her mind and said she wasn’t. Had no mates available to go out with and didn’t really want to go out and wasn’t going to buy did in the end, met someone who became friends with, a few months later when I thought I just had a really sickness bug she showed up at my house and forced me to go to hospital, when I got there they got me an emergency ambulance and said you were really lucky as body was starting to shut down was having a heart attack and any wouldn’t have had much longer. Had I chose to stay in that night I’d certainly have died on the sitting room floor that day but something told me to go out |

If the end is predetermined how would you have free will between that and the beginning? |

I believe it was fate/destiny meeting C.
I joined FAB and I couldn’t post on forums for 2 weeks. I seen C on the forums on the first day I could post on the forums and messaged her.
C had 3 guys in her stable and 1, who was her ‘local’ guy was wanting a relationship and she didn’t want one, so he walked away.
I sent my message at the right time as any other time/day she’d have not bothered reading it as she was happy with her stable.
She also couldn’t meet her other two guys due to Covid restrictions which meant we just focused on each other.
I mean after chatting then the rest was pretty much down to us connecting but it needed that that spark of fate/luck/destiny to connect us in the first place.
We lived 2 hours away from each other so there’s no way we’d have ever met otherwise.
I think you can also make your own path too - it depends on how much you want it.

No. Everything is just random matter floating about in space and time. Sometimes things collide, sometimes they move in parallel, sometimes they move apart. Fundamental rules govern how the particles that make up matter behave, but beyond that, nothing is predestined, nothing is pre planned or set out in advance. |

It's comforting the idea that we are the masters of our destiny, or that it is all predetermined. There's some inherent order.
Doesn't sit right for me. I think we create meaning, because the alternative is just a little too difficult to stomach sometimes: there's no rhyme or reason.
There are moments in life though where it feels like there could be. They can be quite significant and make me wonder. Then I laugh ironically at my self-importance. |

You do have free will between. It comes down to only having 2 answers. Yes or No. Right or Left which we have the choice to do. But no matter what we choose it always ends up being a path to the end |

No...
I think that stuff happens for absolutely no reason what-so-ever, there's no mystic forces or universal script being played out, life is just a series of outcomes based on the choices we make and those made by everyone that we interact with... Obviously everyone who we interact with is also influenced by the myriad of interactions that influence their lives too.

She said I’m a caged bird that’s meant to fly , led by the limits that matter has placed on me. So every now and then I shake it off. |

My thoughts are, we are fated in some ways, for example in who, how and where we are born and the people we meet. Free will is what we do with that, the choices we make and the path we follow |

Free will vs determinism is a topic I have been thinking a lot about. The science seemed to be confident about determinism until Quantum physics came in and opened up the question again. For me personally, I love the idea of having a choice in my life.
Even if it's an illusion, I enjoy making these choices and see how they turn out. Not a big fan of leaving things to fate. |

We would have no free will if everything was determined for us. There would be no point in a conscience or sense of right and wrong.
People like Poo-tin (and every other evil person) would have to be forgiven because it’s not their fault, the universe made them do it. |

Many branches of science are embracing new theories on how the universe works, such as cosmology and quantum physics. The most recent thoughts are that the universe is composed of 4% matter, 23% dark matter and 73% dark energy but there is much we still don’t understand such as black holes and a host of other cosmic phenomena.
We have a lot to learn |

We are all stardust in the cosmic soup, life has existed way way wayyyyyy before humans and will exist way wayyyy after us. The arrogance of man to think he is the only form of intelligent life has a name … hubris - noun (in Greek tragedy) excessive pride towards or defiance of the gods, leading to nemesis. xxx |

Choices 'I' make. Therefore I chose. Therefore there are choices for me to make.

Douglas:
Space: what is it? The simple answer is, we don't know. Or at least we didn't know until now. Hello, I'm Douglas Reynholm, and I'm not a scientist, but I do have a better understanding of what space is than any scientist living today. Where did I gain these insights? From this man, the founder of Spaceology. Beth Gaga Shaggy - no relation to Lady Gaga or Shaggy - is the founder of Spaceology, a religion, not a cult. In other words, when it comes to space, he's the man with his head screwed on tight. This is what he told me when I met him on holiday two weeks ago.
Beth Gaga Shaggy:
Space is invisible mind dust, and stars are but wishes.
Douglas:
I mean, think about that! That means every star you can see in the night sky is a wish that has come true. And they've come true because of something he calls Spacestar Ordering. Spacestar Ordering is based on the twin scientific principles of star maths and wishy thinking. If you'd like to know more, there are thousands of Spaceology centres all over the UK. If that doesn't convince you, well, then, maybe you just don't deserve to get what you want |

I once went to Rome with my daughter. Years ago tho ... By chance and choice tho. Not by fate. She had a row with the new hubby and I filled the gap on the trip they'd booked that she wouldn't let him go on.
They weren't destined to break up either. She had a shit attitude to life and an entitled air about her which led to difficulties....... she made really shitty choices growing up. I don't think God or the universe got them together and gave them a bad time..... She saw , she wanted , she twisted his arm up his back and presto. A marriage went ahead. Quite a beautiful manoeuvre to watch in all it's glory and if God did all that then he was very sick for a good ten years.
Enjoy Rome |

I'm more than happy for you to hold that Western religion based meaning for destiny. It's very different for none believers or those that equate it with karma and human spirituality. If someone decided to do something then it cannot be 'chance' and certainly not pure chance......... tho i'll accept that decisions followed bring the unexpected with the expected "
Split decision spur of the moment kinda thing last minute decision, choice not aware of the impact ( fate) |

Example: inundated messages. Fate by sending a message expecting a reply fate if you get a response joing a swinging site fate expecting to be full in gunge. Doing a good/bad deed. None is written as you choose to or not choose to change your mind Fate which is at the corner of every decision making |

"100% belive in fate x
What makes you believe in fate Candyflosssssss ?
(i'm just gonna brew up n bring it back to bed )
Not sure I can put me finger on it! But just do! It's like when u start thinking to much! For example if I'd not had my first job where I did would not have met first hubby! Had my oldest 3 kids! Not have my grandkids/great grandkids! All that from just getting a job in a particular place! I see it as what was mapped out for me! Same as everything in my life! The good and the unfortunately bad shit! Enjoy Yr cuppa I'm sitting on balcony in rome over looking the colouseum with my coffee! One of the good moments in fate! X"
Yeah but that’s just life not fate. I met my husband in a nightclub in 1991. He wrote my number on an empty packet of Rothmans. If he’d have lost that or left it in a cab my life would have been totally different and I wouldn’t have my kids etc. That kind of thing happens to everyone. |

"Destiny or whatever you want to call it.
Do you believe that things happen the way they are supposed to or is everything totally chance ruled by chaos.
I'm not talking about a higher power like God.
But I do believe that the universe decides for us.
"
Yes i think something's will happen in life no matter what or where we are, not sure why |

What about people who are born into a blessed life, never know hardship or stress breeze through life.
Whilst others struggle their entire lives go through all kinds of shit.
I guess some people are destined to have it easy whilst others aren't. |

It's a life test how one nourishes it wisely/choose not to. The ability to make wise decisions that suddenly the likely hood will be a positive impact. And never bang their big toe by accident by choice thoughtfully done |

"Yes I do and also that you dont have free will, in the sense that everything you do and say is already decided "
So why do we punish people who do things like murder, r@pe etc? It's pre destined. They can't stop destiny, right? |

Because they had to make a decision, how best to provide protection and make a profit from Ill gotten gains |

Yes, because in theory it doesn't matter what you choose, or don't, because that is what is destined.
It's kind of cheating really.
And sometimes it's pretty ok to take some decisions off your hands to lighten the load when all options don't appeal. |

But Shag said there's no free will. If there's no free will and everything is preordained, there are no true decisions, right? |

In my mind the future is determined by the very nature of it being an unknown, which means no matter what, it is in itself predetermined irrespective of what we do. |

I do believe in free will, however I think every now and then the universe gives us a little nudge in the right direction.
I've had too many weird things happen in my life that would have me believing there is nothing but chance and luck. |

I suppose a certain amount is accepting you’re fucked (yes I did) and getting on with it.
The end is inevitable but you can mess around on the way to it.
Fate is wholly inexorable and all that. |

This is where logic fails. They then change the meaning of destiny or fate to match with outcome |

No, the universe couldn't give a rat's arse and to think otherwise is to vastly (like mind-blowingly so) exaggerate our own importance!
NB: That doesn't mean I'm diminishing human endeavour, in fact it only makes it more fascinating and worthwhile imo. |
