What's your favourite scary movie??

So, with October just around the corner, I need some recommendations when it comes to films, as I always do the 30 days' of horror marathon in the lead up to Halloween and would love some recommendations!

I'll start, so my favourite horror film is the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. It has a super creepy plot, an amazing cast and a villain as unforgettable as Freddy. What's not to love..

Jack.

Yeah Train To Busan is great! After you’ve watched that, watch the prequel film “Seoul Station”. That’s great too - even though it’s animated it’s still tense and scary. Fills in a lot of events that lead up to train to busan.

I’d skip the sequel “peninsula”. It’s really bad.

I was in a film really similar to American werewolf not too long back and after doing a full practical werewolf transformation that was half as good as American werewolfs it gives you a real admiration for the actor that did a full 24 hour shoot doing that scene, its madness haha amazing film!

3 slashers from the 80s that I remember are

The Burning,

Absurd, and

Night of the Demon (there may be more than one 80s film called this. It was about a bigfoot type creature).

The acting is pretty poor as I remember but they are archetypal slashers.

Just remembered a few more as I was typing.

Canibal Holocaust and zombie Flesh Eaters. These are pretty gruesome and I'm not really into slashers, I have become a bit nesh as I've got older. Enjoyed them at the time though.

Split - (James McAvoy is great in this)

Cannibal holocaust - it's creepy, because the director actually got taken to court & had to show how some of the killings were done. Not everyone's cuppa mind you.

Just after watching the boogeyman, it's a new release, it wasn't bad but it won't ever go down as a classic, but what does nowadays.

Enjoy the horror-thon!

Invasion of the body snatchers starring Donald Sutherland it could be, which is a remake of a 50's b movie of the same name but still good.

but sounds like day of the triffids but that is a black and white film, not aware of a remake.

Exorcist III

Not gory, but incredibly suspenseful. Makes sparse use of music to dramatic effect. Oscar level performances from the late George C. Scott and Brad Dourif

Is that the 1950s original or the Kurt Russell remake?

Remake, the remake is actually closer to the book as well which I was suprised about I put off reading it for ages because I thought it would be like the 1950's film.

The Fearless Vampire Killers gave me nightmares as a kid.

I started sleeping with the covers pulled around my neck, and did so for years.

I'm a coward now and can't watch horror films alone now, except the occasional zombie film as The Walking Dead desensitised me towards zombies.

Some newer ones have been decent like Talk to Me that just came out. Hereditary is from the last few years thats amazing. Jordan Peeles are all good ones. Green Room is a good one thats not ghosts or demons etc. His House is good, Barbarian is good there are loads and with horror most are at least good or fun to watch so just have a look about

I’m a bit odd and I prefer older, b/w horror films.

I Walked with a Zombie is a wonderful B film horror from the 50s and I also like the British film Dead of Night from the 40s, especially the much copied ventriloquist section.

A den in the Glen

I think the 2 best psychological horrors of all time come in pairs:

1. The Thing (1982)

2. Alien.

3. Aliens.

4. The Thing (prequel 2011)

Night of the Demon (black and white classic) had me shit scared as a kid. Nightmares. Watched it as an adult and it was comical.

Last one I really enjoyed was Midsommar, I get that it’s a bit ‘love or hate’ film but I really enjoyed it.

Night of the Demon (It’s in the tree’s it’s coming) 1957 classic.

Night of the living Dead with its absolute crushing ending for the hero.

The Thing and the original The Thing from another World (1951) a brilliant double bill

Martyrs and the Evil Dead.

But one that I saw as a teenager and left a big impression was, Les Diaboliques (1955) a surprisingly scary film.
