So what delectable Michelin star style school dinner was your favourite or most hated or was it all inedible.

We called it frog spawn, not sure if it was semolina or tapioca but dam it was vile unless you could get some jam and stir it in to make it semi edible.

Liver and onion was horrific

Egg, chips and beans was nice (we used to serve double portions then trick the cashier by hiding an egg under the chips or persuading her it was all a single portion etc so she only charged for single portions.

I have grown up in the era of pasta king and jacket potato with cheese and beans so it was always reasonable. But let me tell you, whenever a school makes macaroni cheese it’s horrific. It is so bad I can’t believe they a) serve it as a main and not a side and b) serve it at all. Why is it white? Ewww

Somewhere In The Ether…

I distinctly recall (and am forever scarred by!) my primary schools attempt at homemade Tomato Ketchup.

It tasted horribly sour and was frankly, really rather vile!

In primary school we had cheesy whirls.

Puff pastry rolls with cheese, onion and Mashed potato inside. They were the most delicious things. And seeing as my mam was the school cook, she used to make them at home too

Hated them at first school as just got what you were given and were made to eat it before being allowed out, I remember the mash tettie being the most lumpy horrible texture either we would flatten it down with fork to trick the dinner ladies into letting us go.

Middle school was much better you could get burger or pizza with chips every single day

We never had food at my school, only our own lunch or stuff from the kiosk. Like milk cartons or bit of candy.

Here and there

Favourite was chocolate sponge and mint custard, not a chance I'd eat that now! Oh and I was one of the oddballs who wanted the skin on the custard!

Hated tapioca and those boiled beef burgers
