The answer is Jay Z for me. I used to have PAC there but Jay’s consistency over years is immense. Plus he apparently never writes his lyrics down which is just reason enough for him to be the GOAT.

Kendrick for me.
Whilst he hasn't been around as long as Mr Z his music and influence is as important in my humble opinion.
Z is an empire partly built on his profile being married to the goddess and mainly due to talent and hard work but I doubt the latter would have happened without the former.
Kendrick s lyrics for me are a throwback to a different era but obviously very relevant. |

"It's Pac for me.
I see your Jay and appreciate it but Pac didn't get the same opportunity. I just think his lyrics and rhyme play was on another level. "
I would agree with anyone that has Pac, Jay or Biggie. All immense. I think pac and Biggie would’ve also been excellent over tinder |

Jay was huge before Beyonce. Maybe not in the 'mainstream' but he was. And actually, I say his earlier stuff was way way better. |

He was yes but not in the stratospheric superstardom way he became once with Beyonce.
He's more a businessman these days, a very wealthy one |

"Oh it's Eminem all the way with NF getting an honourable mention.
Steve is so gonna block me now snicker."
NF is very good, didn't think he had much of a UK following! |

For US rappers Jay-Z, Kendrick or Andre 3000
For UK Dave or Little Simz
Kanye deserves some recognition for his production work and what he’s contributed to hip hop overall. I’m ignoring all his other shit away from music. |

Widen your Spotify listening. Big Boi smashes Andre and they're not that good. Roots Manuva and Blade for UK. |

"Old school….. KRS 1"
Yes this made me smile so much
Without krs one there’s no jay z, no nas, no pac, no biggie, no Kendrick and no Eminem.
Rap was around before krs one but it was the sugar hill gang and that crew. krs one brought in boom bap and started the gangster rap movement. Rakim was around the same time but rakim had his own style and flow that many people tried to copy but couldn’t. I’ve seen krs one live a few times best live performer I’ve ever seen but I have a feeling busta rhymes is going to beat that when I get to see him but krs one was unbelievable all classic hits and then would freestyle off the top of his head for 5 or 6 minutes and it would be better then most rappers written verses.
Honourable mentions for me are DMX, dmx was absolutely huge in the 90’s a lot of interviews I’ve watched or read with people all say he would of been the biggest rapper ever if it wasn’t for all the personal problems he had. If I can recommend a video people should watch jay z talking about dmx it will give you goosebumps.
The other honourable mention is 50 cent.
No rapper has ever had a run like 50 cent did when he came out. He took over the music industry
I can’t remember who said it but a rapper from rocafella said jay z sat everyone down and was like everyone get your music out now because 50 cent is coming and when he does he’s going to take over. Not only that 50 cent was legit in the streets too. You should look up tony yayo talking about 50 on You tube there’s loads of shorts and videos and it will give you a really good idea of what 50 was like |

I can't call anyone the GOAT
My top 5 are all GOATs, imho & I've listened to Hip Hop for 41 of its 50 years.
KRS ONE / Rakim / Masta Ace / Black Thought / Big Daddy Kane
Far too many other MCs sit on the next tier down but those 5 for me are the greatest of all time. |

"Ren is certainly proving his skills, and as a artist as a whole imo he far exceeds eminem"
Ren is great and I've been digging his music for a few years but he isn't anywhere near Em's level. Em is to be fair the greatest white rapper of all time. |

The greatest rapper of all time imo is Nas. He has the best album (Illmatic), two other classics in It Was Written and Stillmatic. He’s had a 30 year career and is still one of the best. Plus he rarely ever sold out and made commercial hits |

"Louie Deadlife. Skinnyman. Braintax. Solareye. Adam Hussain.
Regional British accents in rap for the win. "
Skinnyman’s a funny guy. I see him out and about around Leeds all the time. |

My personal GOAT in UK Hip Hop Chester P imho is that guy a pure storyteller whose wordplay and skill level is 2nd to none. A lot of other incredibly solid UK MCs around who are up there above a lot of big US MCs mentioned in a lot of this thread in my own listening experience, I can relate to what Jehst / Rodney P / kalashnekoff / Skinnyman / Four Owls etc rap about. |
