"i used to be the receptionist at redifusion many moons ago in Leeds "

Laugh if you will, but Rediffusion was the first cable tv company and they also produced tv programmes as well. I remember their ident on the old black and white days - it was a bit like a drawing of the sun and underneath it said 'Rediffusion London'

The name of course meaning re-diffusion or in other words the tv signals were picked up by the company and re-diffused, or re-distributed via their cable network

My first job was for Rediffusion Industrial Services, they put cctvs into the airports, Houses of Parliament etc, tvs into top London hotels etc. They were based in Fulham.

I was employed as secretary to the area manager. He employed the leggy blonde I had the inter_iew with, but she had a row with her boyfriend and didn't turn up for days at a time.

He sacked her and employed me. I took it knowing I'd applied to go into nursing, but it served him right.

Also got a vision of a girl in a hot air balloon, song was - "she flies like a bird in the skyyyyyy, she flies like a bird and I wish that she was mine" but cant remember what it was for, bread i think. ???? "

I'm another who worked for Redifusion, I used to set up the films for their Cablevision network in this area.

Then Robert Maxwell brought the company and the rest, like my pension with them, is history.

Amongst many retailers, Tesco Supermarkets gave Green Shield Stamps with every purchase, based on how much you spent.

The definition of Tesco being a supermarket by today's standards is laughable as most Tesco Expree Stores are larger today than a Tesco's Supermarket of the late 60's/early 70's.

The old Tesco's in the village where I live, became a video hire shop before eventually becoming a sunbed place which it still is today.

someone should create a defunct store themepark. you could enter thru rumbleows, wander thru comets, mosey thru woolworths stop for lunch at Jo Lyons and exit thru blockbusters. they could build it on an existing high st. its a win win

I remember a victor value in huyton village in the 80s , they had long bits of square sectioned steel welded to the trolleys nearly touching the ceiling so the locals couldn't rob them !!

Victor Value are way older than Tesco.. VV used to do Green Shield stamps and were a reasonably sized food chain. Tesco bought them out and turned larger VV stores into Tesco.. Very clever move for the 1960's

Tesco sold the VV brand to Bejam which is now known as Iceland... There are still VV stores about, mainly in the North
