We could get through the day without yet another post about women’s body size? And yes, I am aware I’ve started one so therefore ruined my own efforts before anyone starts
But seriously, there’s so much body shaming going on it’s making me feel really uncomfortable and if it’s making me feel uncomfortable then it must be making other people feel uncomfortable too.
I get the premise behind ‘I love curvy women’ and ‘I love thin women’ and ‘I love bbws’ etc but all it’s doing is alienating women who aren’t in whatever group you’re on about and giving people a platform to slag off whatever the opposite is.
Just because you personally like bigger women doesn’t mean you should say things like ‘skinny women look ill/like they’re on drugs/are disgusting’ and just because you personally like thinner women doesn’t mean you should say things like ‘obese women aren’t healthy/attractive/are disgusting’.
There’s enough body shaming in the forums lately to start doing some serious damage to a lot of women’s psyche so maybe we could all just shut the fuck up about it and talk about something else for a bit? |

Honestly this has been driving me crazy over the past few weeks, so many of these posts & the amount that feel they need to shame the opposing body type is appalling.
People are certainly allowed preferences but to shame the other isn't on! My block list has increased a lot over these threads.
People are vile at times and this place shows the worst in some, what people say to get their leg over is unbelievable.
I've never been more put off this place than the past few weeks.

I must be missing something here
Firstly if this is going on it’s unacceptable
Secondly I hope I’m missing it because the mods have moved swiftly and removed post and banned the perpetrators ! |

Only 1 of several posts for removed unfortunately.
Many comments regarding bones are for dogs, don't like an ironing board, curves are for real men type bollocks.

Sadly the world is obsessed with how people look and putting us all into boxes.
Personality is lost because all people have to go on is images of bodies.
People say and do all sorts in the hope for attention.
I don't like the shaming and there is no need for it but sadly I think it will always happen. |

Usually I do. Logged on this morning and the first three threads were on body size of some description |

And yet that will never happen because a woman's size and shape is seen as something that needs to be praised or lambasted.
Actually, a woman's physicality in general - women are meant to be in constant competition with each other for the attention of men - it makes very warped sense that it extends to body shaming to remove the "competition".
I'm fucking tired of the idea that women need to compare and compete. Have you noticed how if a man doesn't like another man it's probably because he's a bit of a dick?
If a woman doesn't like another woman it's because of a man. Because she's jealous/comparing etc etc. If you want to curry favour with a woman? Tell her she's better than others.
The whole thing is utter bollocks.
Just ignore the threads as much as possible. |

Must be an element of making women feel shit about themselves so they then appreciate any attention from men and are more likely to put out too.
Ergh. Maybe I’m being naive thinking that we could all just shut up and get on! |

"Cock size
Almost always started by men
And women reply.
"
More often than not to say they don't have a particular preference. Or some women do, some women don't.
Obviously it's not an accurate representation of views outside of the fora but yes.... the majority don't body shame cock size on here. |

Not to mention the ‘whataboutery’. Even on this thread where the subject is women’s bodies someone still has to bring up something about men |

My post wasn't trying to highlight parallels between a woman's size and cock size threads. It was a standalone reply solely about about cock size threads. |

Overwhelming positive on both curvy and bbw
A slight undertone on the bbw and I can clearly see how it would be seen as a negative
Very hard to control it from the mods point of view I’d say
Very unnecessary

I actually commented on the curvy thread how I love curvy women.
Do you know why, partly because I genuinely fo but also to try and make other curvy women feel good about themselves. For decades us curvy ladies have been made to feel 2nd best, inferior, and jibed and bullied for being overweight.
I've had decades of being tof I'm fat. I've tried dieting for over 30 years so that I try and 'fit in' with what is viewed and portrayed and expected to try and achieve that 'perfect size 10'.
My social media is still full of diets, telling me I need to train 5 times a week, eat this, don't eat that, pictures of slim women are absolutely everywhere modelling everything.
We are made to feel disgusting by going to the doctor's and the BMI scale is telling us we are obese because we carry extra weight. Some of us are naturally solid ladies but we are constantly knocked, daily.
So yes, I commented to try and make other curvy ladies feel they are gorgeous worthy, and attractive, and fam. I may of even hoped to pick up a compliment or 2 myself, because god knows I certainly need compliments to counteract the negative comments I've received over the decades.
It's all fucking annoying but hey, it'll never change.

It’s a tough one really.
There’s a difference I guess between having (and expressing) a preference for some characteristics and *criticising* (or shaming) what you don’t like (eg I can’t see anything wrong with saying “I like fuller figure women” but can see that saying “Thin women are like a bag of bones” is unnecessary and wrong)
People have preferences : hair colour, face, age and yes, body size etc. whether we like it or not.
It might seem a female only thing but us men get it too… must be over 6ft, must be gym fit, must have a beard, must have a full head of hair, must have a minimum of 8 inches … if that sort of thing bothers you it can make you feel inadequate if you don’t meet the criteria.
So I don’t think it’ll ever go away (human nature) so we need to either let it wash over us, or if we know the thread is likely to be triggering, avoid reading it. |

"Just to prove that point, we have “Torso Tuesday” at the head of the forum right now "
What point?
Everyone has a Torso, very rarely if ever is a derogatory comment made about any kind of body type in that thread, self deprecating comments aside. Largely because it's men trying to be noticed and/or show off a new pic. Women rarely venture in or comment in it. But when they do, love and appreciation is shown for all, or at least without bringing the "other" body types down.
Technically it's open to men and women too (women have torsos too), of all body shapes and sizes.
But yes, now and again the "preference" shouting can lead to feelings of being inadequate and less desirability. |

But it’s only really open for those who have a chiselled torso. I’m not even going to debate that.
No its not I'm a fat bastard with a train wreck of a Torso, and mine can be found in there at times, when I fancy it.
Good for you
So it kind of suggests your theory holds no weight..."

"We could get through the day without yet another post about women’s body size?
There’s enough body shaming in the forums lately to start doing some serious damage to a lot of women’s psyche so maybe we could all just shut the fuck up about it and talk about something else for a bit? .
There’s no obligation to read any posts at any time. It’s easily fixed. Ignore it.
And yet you felt the need, to tell us all a solution that we all already know, informative and insightful. I wish I'd thought about this simple but effective solution before..
You really don’t like people suggesting that you ignore posts do you? "
I have no problem with it ppl are free to comment what they like, but it's very much. Let's point the damn obvious out, I already know that I can ignore a thread or a comment, im already aware that I have that choice |

But it's not. How is it? Because Shag starts it and has a chiseled torso himself? The activity in it has dwindled but over the years the thread was extremely popular and was full of varied body types, with love shown for both.
If others don't feel like they can't join in it, it's on them. Nowhere does it state that it's limited to a certain body type. Nor, as I stated, is anyone else made to feel bad about their body in that thread other than their own perception of seeing others with a different body type join in. |

No need - it’s sufficiently incorrect that a debate would be pointless.
But for the avoidance of doubt - it features men and women with varied body types and no one comes on saying I only/never want to see X type. |

I've been all body types in the last 20 years and it's never made any difference attracting men, I really don't think they care as much as we think they do. |

If I go by what is posted on the forums about women's bodies I would have no clue what I am. According to the forums curvy is a dress size not a body shape so I'm the wrong size dress to be considered curvy, but I'm not straight up and down nor do I look like an 'ironing board', and nor am I gym fit never been to a gym in my life. My boobs are slightly to big to be considered itty bitty, but way way to small to be considered big. I'm too tall to be considered petite, but too short to be considered tall. I'm just me like me or not I don't care, but I do get fed up with all the pitting different shaped women against each other on here, its why I don't bother even clicking on those types of threads anymore. |

Thats what the forums are about surely alienating people who don't fit in, whether it be body size, who's your fav forumite, who's the funniest, whos the tallest almost every question alienates somebody |

I don't think it has been like this has it? It seems very exaggerated to me.
I tried to follow all the 'curve' threads (it's why I eventually made my own!)
I haven't seen a single post that says..
"obese women aren’t healthy/attractive/are disgusting’." or vice versa, though I have associated flesh with actual healthiness myself at one point
It's all drama on Fab I'm afraid - even when people are fed up with the drama end up dramatising it!

Well it's been said many times by many people that if you get offended by a subject just don't read any thread's on that subject.
Developing a thick skin is part of forum life unfortunately.
I very much doubt that the response would have been the same if a man had started it.
But guess what ladies us guy's have body image issues also.
Here's something interesting tho.
My wife jools has for Many years said that when she goes out it's not guy's she worried about its women as they are far more judgy of other women particularly if she's dressed up showing off some cleavages or leggies.
And at Xmas she has to have a new outfit every year otherwise the other women judge each other if they wear the same one.
And it's men who are at fault for this??
I'm confused |

Ok sorry about the cat, but I've looked again (it's 5 curvy/curvaceous threads in 7 days now with mine!) and I haven't/still cannot see them (the offensive posts I mean ).
I just don't really get it, other than seeing the same 'objectifying' threads over and over can be tedious sometimes for sure! But Fab has never been any different that way unfortunately.
I just think contesting opinions are guaranteed (whether guarded against or not!) in rather-generalising threads like this. I just thought this thread was a bit misleading, as even all the ambiguous 'curvy' threads are mainly just people saying "yay me." And I started one of those threads which was actually a bit critical of the 'general line' too (others put it better than I have in my thread itself).
I just felt this thread here reflects badly on me, especially as I'm the one who's pushed the weight line tbh. As someone else put it somewhere, slim is a size but curve is just a shape. I think all women deserve to be curvy! Because they actually are. As I say I didn't see anything post-wise that was as bad as you suggest (though a post or two could have been deleted granted), and nothing I posted in the threads myself was bad either hopefully. (and please anyone, tell me if it was).
Obviously, really-unacceptable posts can at times be posted across the forum, but those are normally spotted/reported and then dealt-with with pretty quickly it seems to me. And they can land just about anywhere can't they? So as with all the thread repetition on Fab, what can you do? It's harsh to blame the starters of the threads at those times, especially when they are not all that controversial.

I do actually remember the 'x are this, bones are for dogs etc" one, I actually called it out myself! I didn't notice it looking through them today, so looks like its gone. I found it more ignorant than deliberately offensive tbh, but I'm glad it's gone. Virtue signalling and desperate men etc..
Honestly, some people on Fab are foolish and some people are fools, but when has that ever changed??
The main thing is the mods are on the idiot(s) - it can actually only take one - who spam really offensive stuff.
I don't see the point of criticising the threads themselves. I also didn't see anything calling women disgusting... but ok maybe I missed that too.
Exaggeration is a concern for me as it effects the demographic here, the people who come on here. The Lounge especially is known for being cliquey and decidedly over 40s. Also a bit middle class tbf. I'd like to see it open up a bit more if it's possible. Maybe it isn't I don't know.

It's harsh to blame the starters of the threads at those times, especially when they are not all that controversial.
pt
If you feel this thread reflects badly on you then that’s on you. Likewise, if you’ve not seen any negative comments such as the ones mentioned above then cool, you’ve managed to miss them or they’ve been removed.
I stand by my post and that’s cool if you wanna disagree
.
What do you mean 'on me' though? I haven't done anything wrong. I haven't missed anything either, I have literally looked through 5 threads (incl the BBW one). I wish I could be so comfortable generalising tbf.

You said you feel the thread reflects badly on you. That's your interpretation. And you've just made another catty comment to fluffy - really?

I don't think it has been like this has it? It seems very exaggerated to me.
I tried to follow all the 'curve' threads (it's why I eventually made my own!)

There’s no need for catty digs. I’ve certainly not dramatised anything, all you need to do is go and read some comments

Well hello Mr Gandhi. Why do you think anyone would defend anything? Or do you think I am conspiratorial in some way?!
You seem a bit of a 'White Knight' yourself sometimes I have to say.
I made a thread on size (I don't create that many threads), then I read a new thread just a few hours later criticising such threads! Ok, I defended myself. Yes I took it a bit personally perhaps, but I honestly didn't see them as all that bad. Ironically, my whole issue was that the language they all shared was needlessly divisive because all women are curvy. But in being about select sizes - who cares?
And yes I am uncomfortable of certain posters auto-laying in to others. Typically to be one of the team, it sometimes appears to me.
Not everyone is as 'bad' as they first might seem Mr Gandhi.

No I said curvaceous women like Adele, not Lara Croft. But never mind.
The Malteser thing was an attention grabber from a youtube video I saw (I nearly didn't do it, but thought what the heck my posts are normally too dry for people), but I will take that on the chin. At least you have pointed to something instead of just generalising.
I thought the thread went quite well, with a decent range of posters. I was in that kind of mood and enjoyed it too. I didn't see the point of the downer at all.

I didn't see anyone call any woman disgusting, that's the hitch. It was the bones of a decent OP, just exaggerated in my view. I did see someone in this thread who had posted in my thread shocked by this assertion, and I did make the last thread on this. So obviously I felt I was someone you were criticising.
Yes I'm coming on strong here, but so did you. Clearly you are well-meaning about this (as am I, very-clearly I would like to think..) so I don't think you can be all that aggrieved.. simply because I was one of the thread starters.
I'll say this straight, lately I've seen new and occasional posters who I think are being somewhat-bullied by people here who are essentially 'virtue signalling' (yes, term of the moment). There is a fine line between some 'off' posting and being rounded upon I think.
And I'm the first to criticise really bad posting, especially when it's particularly misogynistic.
Please, let's all be aware of the balance though guys (just a comment to everyone this).

Good god at the risk of sounding like I’m having to explain something to a child, just because you didn’t see something before it got removed doesn’t mean it didn’t get said. Exaggerated in your view doesn’t mean it actually is. Do not presume to tell me how aggrieved I may or may not be, or what my intentions were in starting this thread. It is clear to me you are someone who just loves an argument no matter the subject so I shall leave you to it and not engage with you further. |

OK, I've just had to report a PM (just abuse and nothing else). Nobody has to do that.
I want to say I actually respect pretty much everyone in this debate, certainly the OP.
It's just gone a bit wrong.
RE my Malteser ref, I hold my hands up there - it was borderline offensive I suppose, and certainly counter-productive too.
If it's all anyone read of my thread I can't really blame them for switching off after that. (Rather ironically something I was trying to avoid).
The thread here was certainly well meaning so sorry for coming on so strong.
Please though - I'm well meaning I don't need purely provoking messages. Any actual debate by PM though is normally just fine.
Maybe it's best if I'm out now.
