I walked my pooch down the lovely local woods here at the weekend.
The sun was shining, the birds were singing and all was right with the world.
…..until I got back and started itching….I mean, REALLY itching.
I had been bloody well vampirised by fleas (or something!) At least three sodding great big raised bites on my legs!
Good folks: What has bitten you this year? How many bites have you sported at once?
There’s a prize of some soothing ointment and of course the awesome bragging rights for the most bites sustained.

Well its funny you should post this but i was out yesterday and did not feel a thing until later in the afternoon when two itchy lumps on my ankle and one on my arm came up
In this heat they are itching like mad but i am restraining from scratching |

I took a bite on the finger from a big horsefly. It swelled up that much, I was unable to bend it or clench a fist to grip anything.
I didn’t even flatten the offending mini beast either, thus adding to my already vexed state. |

That sounds like one of those so called Vampire Horseflies from the continent that the press have been talking about so much this year.
They apparently bite bigger, more painfully and are far more likely to cause infection than the regular kind we have previously been used to  |

The best tip I can give for a horsefly attack is to actually allow them to just settle on you before slapping them dead (but be quick - before they bite!) - they won’t be able to bother you again obviously and you may subsequently pat yourself on the back in the altruistic knowledge that you have saved all those around you

We were in North Wales a couple months back and we were bitten to death by horseflies - they were rife on all the forestry walks...
Normal vinegar will neutralise the sting - just use a cotton pad and keep it on for a couple minutes... if you can't stand the smell, get yourself some tea tree oil

Was on Vancouver Island last Autumn bear watching and got hammered by little buggers they call “noseeums” hands were covered in lumps. The lodge had some great stuff that you applied like a roll on deodorant. Majored on aloe with other stuff to address the acidity of the bite |

Deer tics that carry Lymes disease, if you get a tic try and remove without squeezing as it is their saliva which carries the disease, squeezing forces the them to regurgitate into your blood stream. Keep an eye on the bite, if you get a bullseye rash seek medical attention. Lymes disease is not the end if you catch it early enough with coursebof antibiotics. |

Not been bitten at all this Year (Open to offers lol) but a few years back I found a Tick attached to me under my watchstrap in Wales, 1st time I'd ever seen one and without knowing how to remove it (or having a handy tool for it) I used a set of Needle-nosed Pliers.. Took a chunk of skin off with it but kept it soaked in Germoline for 3 Days and have had no issues since |

The media do indeed so love stirring up a panic.
The headlines of ‘Killer spiders in the UK!’ relating to False Widows (which have been here for hundreds of years) spring to mind and seem only to serve an agenda to terrify us from entering our garden sheds |
