Has anyone watched this ? I spotted it last night and thought I'd give it a go. Stars Emma Thompson and some gorgeous guy called Daryl McCormack who was in peaky blinders. Really worth a watch.

(*good luck to you)

I heard about it on women's hour (natch) and was very interested to watch because of subject matter, well within my interests. But then heard more and more about it and lost all interest. The character in the film is meant to be in her 50s, it's pretty much my generation but I think the way the story details go it skewes way older. I wish the producers etc had the guts to say it's a story of a woman in her 60s (Thompson's natural age after all!) Or even 70s (cos yes people still develop their sexual lives then) and everything would make a lot more sense then. I think by the time these topics make it on screen our reality has moved on way ahead. As a person who has spent a considerable part of my life sorting out my sex life/sexual guilt I fear this film will irritate me by ample use of tropes and clichés, and end up feeling patronising. Though now I've made myself want to watch it to see what I'll -really- think!

I must give it a watch, I'm a little obsessed with Daryl McCormack.

I thought it was a great wee film. Smart and funny, with both the leads giving excellent performances. I reckon Emma Thompson pulled off a fabulous portrayal of someone who has led a sexually sheltered life, regardless of exact age.

I enjoyed it. I especially liked how Emma Thompson had a nude scene in which (i assume) she wasn't airbrushed. She looked great.

I had a crush on Emma T before watching this film and it probably doubled by the end.

I think the concept of it makes me a bit eye rolly...I'd probably enjoy it at a basic level as entertaining though

And might be more sympathetic if I was a woman in a similar situation

Somewhere In The Ether…

It was actually rather good I thought.

Both leads were great, especially Emma.

And I must say - she is still looking magnificent

I loved it. Emma Thompson is always fantastic. She is always towards the top of my girl crushes.

It was sympathetically produced I think. Especially if you look underneath the sex aspect. I watched it with my 17 year old daughter and we had some brilliant conversations afterwards.

I thought that this was a thread lamenting the departure of a Forumer .. Leo Grande : that’s definitely profile name material isn’t it for the more generously endowed fella.

(I’ve checked .. nobody uses it at the moment, get in quick!)
