Erm….1) yes come on the lioness’
2) the men and the woman actually get paid the same amount to represent their country " Even if they didn't, the argument of women being paid equal in professional sports is a tired and overdone one. Usually brought up by people having an emotional response rather than thinking of it rationally.
Not as popular = less pay. Its that simple. |

This. Women’s football in the US is popular. A couple of players earn over $7m. Sam Kerr at Chelsea earns more than a couple of male first team squad players at the same club.
Image rights for women are never gonna be the same as the men’s, neither are TV contracts. |

Show the men how to play? These womens teams can't beat teams of 15yr old boys so can't see how that'll happen.
Why not just be happy it's happening & accept its a massive gulf in quality, skill, speed & real audience when figures are not manipulated by free or subsidised tickets etc.

The England women's team are competing with Columbia, not the men's team.
I've got money on the Lionesses, fingers crossed they get to the final whoop! Wonderful to boost girls & women playing football in the UK. |

I didn't want to comment , so I held back but my first reaction hasn't left me yet so I will comment.
What an utter fucking stupid comment to make about a world class football team.
They are playing football. Women's football. They are not competing against England's mens team. The mens team doesn't even have to come into any wish for the womens team to win.
Needless comments just serve to divide.
I'd take a bet that each and every one of England's male team are routing for the womens team to win and when they do they will whoop and celebrate with them but they won't feel threatened. Two distinct leagues. |

No.
Wrong on every level.
Good luck to the women.
But you cant compare the two. They are different sports.
I hope mens and womens do well.

Exactly this. Its good that womens sport is getting more visibility and hopefully popularity. Both mens and womens should be encouraged. Dont need the men to fail for the women to succeed. |

This World Cup has taught me that I take as much perverse pleasure in watching the England women's team concede a goal as I do when the England men's team concede a goal.
Now THAT'S equality. |

As for the English womens team, i hope they win too, its been decent to watch with none of the shitey play acting that goes on in the male game |

1-0 to the men's game.
Until Columbia’s keeper does a scorpion kick I’m not having any of this women showing the men up."
One of them will now be shot dead by a drugs cartel for conceding that goal.
Andres Escobar did not die for this. |

I am all for girl power and all that jazz but there is no way the womens team could be in the same league as the mens team
What I also don't get is why call the mens team wankers to try and big up the women? Imagine if was the other way round, there would be the equivilant of WW3 |

I'm loving it. I see people who want to be winners , still hunting for a goal with a lead and 5 minutes to go.
I don't watch any of the games that are full of rolling around on the floor holding an injured sock and passing the ball between defenders for the last 20 minutes.
It's quite amusing to look and see that the men making the he man , not a woman's game, I won't bother to watch if the8 get to the final comments type comments, have also been very unsuccessful in being the type of man people want to meet |

Oh dear...
Another one!!
Let me enlighten you...
The women at the World Cup are getting paid 3 times more than the men do at the World Cup..
Men’s football has taken 130 yrs to get to this powerful stage that it is..
The womens game has a long way to go as there average crowd is a few thousand at best..
Men’s premier league is averaging 40.000..
And more would go if they could squeeze into the stadiums 2 or 3 times a wk..
Bigger and more sponsors and a world wide coverage...
Men’s football is a far higher standard than women’s..
Women’s football has come along way in last 10 yrs..
It will take at least another 2 generations of girls to start playing as kids to adapt there physiques and muscle groups to be able to kick a ball more naturally and harder and future and become more skilful...
So basically...
The women’s football does not nowhere near bring in the revenue the men’s game does worldwide..
And that is fact...
It would be nice to see more women smiling and look like there enjoying playing..
It may be hard to accept the facts..
We all want more money but you have be bringing in the money for the company/team you work.: |

Find it really bizzare everything has to be compared.
Why can’t we just enjoy both?
Jeeze the England men are supporting the women why can’t everyone else
And the comment about women smiling whilst playing… I can’t even respond without a forum ban to something so sexist. Wow.
The Lionesses are doing a great job representing England… as did the netballers last week and the cyclists this week… enjoy it all rather than comparing lol |

There’s LEVELS to the game. The men footballers are not overpayed they get their share of the money. It might be a lot of money for kicking a ball around but it is what it is. Maybe the women get to the same level one day |

I think you must be quoting the wrong person. I haven't compared anyone. All I said is I'm fed up of sports news on the real news.
I couldn't give a flying fuck about which team, of any nationality, of any gender that wins a game. It's of no interest to me at all. (But I do think sports people get paid too much. That's market forces for you, I guess).
I haven't compared anyone though. Apology accepted in advance.

The person who responded to your comment was right to rebuke it, but he/she did it in the wrong way. Allow me to clarify.
You disagreed that it was possible for both sides to be successful using the logic that 'every sport has a winner and a loser so they cant all do well'.
Thats only the case if they are in direct competition with each other. In the case in question, englands mens and womens teams, they arent in direct competition so yes they can both be successful |

Be nice. Tranmere Rovers are a professional outfit and history has shown the world's best team lose to retired old men and teenagers, repratedly.
Investment will help to bridge this gap and I hope it does as more quality football is always good.
Criticism is always good though as it helps to find the weakness and where to stregthen. Be wary of anyone lashing out at criticism and claiming all is good when it isn't... Yet.

"You disagreed that it was possible for both sides to be successful using the logic that 'every sport has a winner and a loser so they cant all do well'.
Thats only the case if they are in direct competition with each other. In the case in question, englands mens and womens teams, they arent in direct competition so yes they can both be successful"
But I wasn't talking about the women's team versus the men's team. They will probably never ever play against each other. I think you and her have read something into my words that isn't there.
When two teams play, unless it's a draw, one of them will lose.
If somebody says everyone can be a winner, I guess they are talking about everybody. Now it seems they were only talking about the men's team and the women's team as opposed to everybody.
I loathe footie on the telly and don't really care who wins. I wish some of the money that goes into sport could go elsewhere, but I accept that it's a free market and people will spend where they want to spend.
Cheers,

Oh come on. You can do better than that "
Under 14s. Womens football isn't very good. Starts from when they're young and can play in teams, and against, boys who are two years younger.

You could say the same about the men's game, which at the highest level, is populated by people who fall over at the slightest provocation and go down like they've been hit by a sniper if a blade of grass touches their calf.
The women's game is what it is. If it's so offensive to your footballing eyes, don't watch.
Many who follow the Prem find League Two football to be a very different game, so we don't invite them to Prenton Park to watch that either.
Presumably you expect only to see your version of what you think football is, each time you see it? |

I used to watch Tranmere Ladies often but my acquired physical disability makes it difficult to go to matches of any kind. I watch what I can on TV, e.g. Euros, FA Cup etc.
Girls play in boys teams due to the lack of dedicated girls teams. FA rules mean this cannot continue past age 11, so many girls still stop playing at this point. Some will have dedicated girls teams to attend.
I stopped playing at age 11. Ten guesses as to why. |

That’s the argument every bloke uses and they always change the team
It was the US under 15 team that beat the USWNT 5-0 in a behind close door game in Dallas
No one is comparing the strength or size of the two sets of teams …. No one is asking Millie Bright for example to mark a Lionel Messi
Take it for what it is an enjoy the skill level…. For example, not many people are hitting a 35 yard free kick like the girl from Panama did against France, not many people are attempting and pulling the back heel thru the keeper’s leg to score like alessia Russo did for England against Sweden last summer

And most don't agree with the OP, if you bothered to read it? We certainly haven't suggested women's teams would beat men's teams, that just seems to be some kind of wet dream for guys who think football needs a side helping of testosterone. As comparisons go all you've done is shown a gross ignorance of where the top level players are and why..
It's like comparing a lada with an F1, yes they're both cars, yes they have nigh on all the same types of components but there's a clue in the name..

Wrexham beat the USA women's team 12-0 LOL. Imagine them playing Manchester city. Also why should they be paid equally, does the women's game generate the same money as the men's leagues? Will it ever? Of course it won't.. come on people haha... |

Whilst the women's game is comparing itself to the men's game and asking for superior pay despite lower quality output. The comparisons are fair and valid.

Well that has opened a can of worms and also shown me dinosaurs are not extinct and some can even type sexist outdated crap on the internet...
All I can say is the very best of luck to the Lionesses who have played with skill, passion and determination.
If the mens team also wins then they played better than their opponents so deserved it too.
Good luck to all of them.

I read Karen Carney wants the Premier league sponsorship money to be split 50/50 between men and women. In business terms it doesn’t make sense at all. In fact it’s crazy talk. I can only assume she has looked at what the men get and thought I want a cut |

The men are not overpaid. Ok for kicking a ball in what is really a kids game vs a doctor, it’s obscene money but the men are just getting their cut of the profits. Premier league clubs especially are making crazy amounts, the men get their percentage. |
