A fascinating new study by scientists has concluded that these gigantic marine predators were……well, really rather slow and lazy swimmers in fact
Whilst modern Great Whites can swim up to almost 35 miles per hour in short bursts (yep, you’re not going to out swim that good folks!) the Meg is estimated to have managed a rather poultry…..1.2 mph (!!!!)
I’m left somewhat questioning this; I mean, how the hell would it have managed to catch anything? Surely it must have been able to turn up the dial when in pursuit mode?
Oh well, it seems that Jason Statham won’t be required after all |

The research also says that it was it's "chosen" top speed for cruising around the ocean. Doing this to save energy ready for high top speeds of burst movement required for hunting. Speeds that it was very capable of.
The energy for a creature that size to constantly be moving would be intense. It was not a sea floor shark able to pump water through, so it can't ever stop moving as it needs to have water move through its gills to breath. |
