"So a friend has decided that my house needs decorating, and that I can't be trusted to choose my own colours... Apparently magnolia walls and white ceilings are very last century. It's been suggested that my kitchen needs to "lean warm (for the morning and because you're shaded west), be not too pale (for the morning), but not be super warm because west afternoon light tends to be very warm". "I tried to find a desaturated yellow and I think I'm looking at beiges ??". Beige! How is that different from magnolia! What does everyone think? Please send colour samples via gallery photos..." Farrow & Ball Shaded white and a feature wall f&b stiffkey. You can get the f&b paint mixed at b&q in valspar which would be cheaper. | |||

"Warm colours make a room small.cool colours make a room look bigger.Avoid any yellow,you won't stay in that room very long.Its subconcious.No airline has ever used yellow in the aircraft.Mcdonalds originally used yellow in their eating areas to encourage people to leave quickly."Blue and green should never be seen except with white in between".The finish is also important,Silk,Satin etc,and only use an emulsion that has "Vinyl" in it's finish description.Cheap paint is not the same as good paint cheap." "Farrow & Ball are great and so is Sanderson paint, if you can get it. For the love of testicles stay away from Fire Earth: the quality and durability of their paint is sub par. Failing that I would just get rid of your "friend', and I can introduce you to my friends William Morris and Kelly Hoppen. "My mate Dante Gabriel Rossetti said he could come over and put a mural over the worktop. Not sure about that though. Banksy popped round last week and he's made a right mess of the garden wall! | |||

Purple is indeed a calming, soothing colour.
As a combination of blue and red it effectively, perfectly balances the cold with the warmth "I wouldn't recommend Red in a bedroom, It's a bit intense but depends on the shade. | |||
Hope your friend is painting. I like the idea but always regret starting after a few strokes. | |||

Too many people follow trends, I follow William Morris ethos "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” " I enjoy bouncing off trends. Not, this is so hot for spring 2023 I must redo my entire place. But - we're subconsciously affected by what we see around us. I know my tastes have shifted gradually in response to what I surround myself with. Dark stifling beige was hot in the 90s, in the 00s and 10s we decided it was dark and stifling. So if I'm going anywhere near a trend, I want to know what's coming, not going, hopefully meaning I'll like it longer. (Specifically longer term decor trends, less fashion - it's easier to buy a pair of jeans than paint a kitchen) Plus looking to what's practical. It may (apparently, the internet says) be incredibly chic to decorate your kitchen and bathroom in sheets of the finest marble, but if you have kids, can't handle the goddamn upkeep, or aren't made of money, then fuck that. | |||

You want your house to feel warm, inviting, and invigorating, so no more cool colours! I don't want that, and have not chosen warm colours. (But green is becoming more popular, and hey, I thought that was a good idea, so green features in the choices I've made. Not the greens people are talking about, though, I picked my own) | |||
