I actually like em. Someone’s having a party and have a baby in the way. What is the point at getting wound up about that?

Personally I don't see the point. I enjoyed finding out if it was a girl or boy when mine were born. But I had no interest in baby showers either. I don't need the fuss.

If people want a party then great, as long as they're sensible and don't end up setting fire to the grassland or exploding things and killing someone.

Of all parties that may result in that, I really doubt gender reveal ones would make it near the top of that list

I personally don’t see the issue. Agreed some take it too far but it’s an exciting time and also exciting for friends and family. Some like to share that moment with the people closest to them.

I haven't had one of those but went to some and it was lovely to have your woman tribe get together and surround you with love.

My more hippy friend made it into more of a blessing for her birth. Mothering the mother is an important concept and I'm all for that.

But it is a grenade!

I posted, and as the OP stepped away from the subject itself without my own opinion or as mediator. I agree though, the participation has been anticlimactic overall, especially after that first swing from JB who clearly woke up and chose violence.

We wrote affirmations for her home birth, a friend did belly painting, shared food, made a bohemian tent we were sitting in all together, spoken word, singing.. and collection of candles wjth different colour threads. When she went into labour we all lit them up and put a pic on our little WhatsApp group and sent her positive energy for the birthing experience. Might sound bonkers but it was magical she was happy.

I will add the people who have reveals when they know there’s a possibility to be disappointed by the gender of the baby, I don’t like. It’s not really a nice thing for your child to potentially be able look back on when they’re older and see.

I don't care for them. I don't care for the disappointed looks when it's not the gender someone "wanted" (it's a baby, not a cat). I don't care for the unnecessary glitter, confetti, balloon pollution when it's spaffed out of a cannon into the garden. What if they've got it wrong? I don't care for the massive fuss of those and also baby showers. What if the pregnancy doesn't continue successfully? People get far too excited. Things can happen to both mother and child at any time.

I've never cared for such things, but my experience in my last pregnancy made me care for them even less.

I never sought to have gender confirmation scans anyway.

I have no issue with 'baby shower' style events, a short while after the birth when mum and baby are settled and the sex is known. Makes it much easier to buy tacky blue/pink themed gifts after all.

But I'm not keen on gender reveal stuff for one reason alone. A distant relative (fifteenth cousin or something) who'd moved to the USA had one a few years back, as is the 'thing's America.

His wife then lost the baby a week later.

Sorry for the serious tone, but things happen. Save it for after all the stress of the birth is done, the parents have caught up on sleep and everyone knows all is well.

I don't like them personally, but then I don't like a fuss. No one knew I was pregnant until my 7th month and that's only bc my boss outed me. I'd have hated a baby shower. But others can crack on with them, I just won't be going.

I kinda think they replaced Christenings, which I totally understand with many not being religious. But I prefered that kind of family event to gender reveals and baby showers.

I had no idea what this was and guessed at something to do with sexy time. I couldn’t have been more wrong!!

Still not entirely sure I follow, who reveals the gender to whom? I mean, does one of the parents know? Or do they invite some poor bastard from the hostypall on their day off to participate in the cloying saccharine social event? Or does someone give the mum such a good fisting they can check for an outie winkie or an innie winkie?

Aarrrggghhh what is this??!!!

I like them.

Having a baby is exciting and a special occasion like a gender reveal is a nice way to get all the family together to find out what you're having.

The only problem I've seen is when someone really wants a particular gender and it's not the right one.
