"I’ve just watched ‘Life’ (2017) and was impressed.. enjoyed it.
Next one I fancy is Sputnik
Is that a new one?"
Made in 2020.. saw a clip on FB and it grabbed my attention, Russian subtitles though |

"I found Prometheus to be a massive disappointment. "
There's only one reason Promethus grinds my gears, and it's something that happens at the end.
Our two female leads running from a giant wheel-like spaceship. All that goes through my mind is "RUN TO THE FUCKING SIDE" |

"Life a real unexpected movie loved it . The Thing all time favourite classic movie "
The Thing (1982) is, and will always be, the best 'Thing' movie. |

"I really liked Sunshine (directed by Danny Boyle) but I've heard some people say it's poor. Each to their own I guess"
I agree with you, it was a very good movie and visually stunning. |

"It's been YEARS since I watched it but I liked event horizon.
But TBF, the shittier it is, the better when it comes to sci fi (for me)"
Event Horizon was a great movie and, I think, destined to become a cult classic. |

An average movie and a huge disappointment, Masters of the Universe.
We expected Eternia, but we got a story involving some teenagers and small-town music store.
Oh, and some of the worst henchmen in movie history. |

If you enjoyed life you should enjoy Sputnik.
Event Horizon will always be one of my favourites add remember shitting myself as a kid watching it.
Critters I would also like to add
Interstellar has got to be up near the top for me. |

"Dark Star, Definitely among the best. Tacky as hell.
Omg! A movie so bad that it's art!
But genuinely unique "
It's not bad, it's brilliant! It's a cult classic. Don't forget it was made when they were at college/university with no budget to speak of.

"Blade Runner is clearly a great classic. "
Unpopular opinion, but Blade Runner is the most beautiful boring movie ever made.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Is great though. |

"We’ve got to mention 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Alien.
Excellent.
But the film version of Hitchhikers’ Guide …. Abysmal "
A lot if people hate on the HHG2TG film, which is strange as Douglas Adams was heavily involved in it. |

Dark Star is a mold-breaking sci-fi classic, in that it was the first film of its genre to actively involve comedy.
Total classic and I watch it at leat a couple of times a year..
Lots of the films mentioned above are great.
Good, I enjoyed TRON legacy, for the visuals. And the girls outfits.!
Worst ever, but so bad it’s fun, is the Italian rip off of Star Wars, called ‘the humanoid’ with Richard Kiel of Jaws fame. |

It wasn’t a visual thing.
It worked brilliantly on radio. The tv version was ok and the film was worse. |

Adams wrote the first draft script, but died before production started so ‘heavily’ is a bit of a stretch. |

"Hobo with a shotgun the best bad sci-fi thing you'll ever watch
This film lives rent free in my head "
Genuinely didn't think anyone would know this movie when I posted it |

"Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, starring everyone's favourite bad guy Michael Ironside."
I saw this at the cinema when it originally came out. In 3D! Gave me eyestrain and headache, but still fun. |

My list of the four most important science fiction films, each of which changed the shape of the genre:
Metropolis
Forbidden Planet
2001: A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner
My contention is that while there are many other excellent SF movies, these are the four that had the biggest influence on everything that came after them. |

Battlefield Earth, John Travolta as an alien overlord following earth being invaded (personally, I thought he looked better than real life)...absolute crap.
The book (L. Ron Hubbard) was quite good though. |

I wouldn't disagree, but I think at the same level there are the 1953 War of the Worlds and the original Star Wars |

Has Michael Ironside ever been in a bad movie? |

"Soylent Green......other than that they made the stuff from human bodies, couldn't tell you a damn thing about it! "
Charlton Heston was in it and his old friend got a 20 minute video of blue sky and deer and stuff before he was euthanised. That’s all I can remember of it. |

"Ad astra - one of the worst sci-fi films I’ve ever seen. "
Watched that the other night. I was expecting great things. It failed to reach my expectations. It was... not good. It didn't even have the grace to be bad. Just a waste. Of time. Money. Energy. My life... |

"May I nominate Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets as being a very good movie?"
I'd say a very Luc Besson movie. Eye popping visuals. Utterly mad. Fabulous Cara Delevingne playing a great Laureline. Valerian just a bit of a pretty boy toy. Plot that made zero sense. Could only have been made by Besson. |

I enjoyed Sputnik a lot, very good "
Seconded. Sunshine I enjoyed. Event Horizon - Great atmosphere. Bladerunner 2049 - Not as good as original. Prometheus - Not very good. |

"Let's kick things off with Lifeforce (1985).
A good movie in my opinion (need I mention Mathilda May?), but is generally considered average at best.
Love it, especially Space Girl! "
And space girl, when she changes into a red head and get's a lift with that bloke mmmm |

Absolutely.
"
I would add Armageddon to that.
The US government hiring Bruce Willis and his oil rig buddies to fly to a meteor and blow it up!
Oh, and Steven Tyler performing a song over his own daughters love scene. |

"Starship Troopers
Great and underrated as fuck."
Agreed and Starship Troopers2 was just as good if not better, they turned the story a lot darker and added more a horror element to it |

eXistence is really good if you like psychological stuff
The Matrix trilogy, haven’t seen the latest one yet
The Martian if you want scientifically accurate films
Enders Game surprised me as well, a lot better than I was expecting |
