Do you ‘picture’ music in your mind?
I don’t mean memories that music can trigger; rather, entirely new images you envision when listening to it because of the feelings it evokes.
I envisioned kissing in Spring rain whenever I hear one of my favourite pieces of music.
However, when I listen to an updated version of it, with a nuanced change in clarity and tempo, it gives me an entirely different vision, one of running through a meadow.
Share with us the music that touches you this way or, if you want to listen to the ones I’ve mentioned, tell us what visions they evoke in you.

A brilliant post
My answer is emphatically yes!
I often find myself transported blissfully to other realms when I really allow myself to relax and bask in a piece of music.
Headphones and my eyes closed really facilitate this I find ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

It does with some kinds of music. Mostly reggae for me just makes me feel like I’m in a warm, happier, bigger house surrounded by people that love me.
I listen to all types of music but mostly I listen to rap and subgenres of rap. And it’s the lyrics that take me places but usually it’s specifically seeing what’s being rapped about. |

I am barefoot, wearing a blue floral cotton dress, jumping in the puddles on a grassy path in the park, prancing away from prying eyes and... so care free. I am celebrating the long awaiting rain, the cleansing of the worries and pure joy of drops hitting my skin so intensely... tiptoe tiptoe on my toes with a dress spinning around and hands in the air, with tongue sticking out trying to taste the rain. And I don't want that moment to end. Childlike and refreshing for the soul.
Same music as you Darling, but I guess you'll need to come and push me against the tree, as you do, and give me all those kisses.
Yours,
T. |

I admit that I couldn’t quite catch all of what he said but of what I heard, it’s easy to picture the graphic images of his lyrics. “Picture me, 17, in an all-black suit, lying still in a coffin….” ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

"No I'm well in the aphantasia spectrum.
I listen to music all the time though, it's always on. It's much more about energy and feeling for me. I'm always matching my mood with music"
People usually tell me the same thing when I’ve asked them this question; it’s the memories, feelings or energy music evokes in them but not many tell me they visualise it. |

One example might be if I listen to a Requiem; the Dies Irae movements are invariably dramatic, ominous - even terrifying (think Verdi’s) which conjure up images akin to some of the more nightmarish works of Hieronymus Bosch.
Other more serene movements on the other hand, evoke beautiful, tranquil vistas etc.
I absolutely love to complete immerse myself and allow my visualisation to travel to wherever it so chooses ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Yes forget mp3 !, it shrinks music by cutting out what they assume most can't hear.. Many headphones are not up to the job too and often dull the trebles, kill the bass or distort the mids. Then there's the source hardware and what software you're using. All can make an incredible difference. What surprised me though was how many are simply unable to hear the difference or even notice background hum and hiss.... |

Music takes me to memories and to people. I don't tend to think about the lyrics coming to life in any other way sadly.
My friend told me you're only truly single when you listen to a love song and no one springs to mind. To me that would be so sad. I love the emotions, feelings, memories, sometimes even very vivid flashbacks or dsy dreams that music gives me.
Not just the soppy stuff or to romantic moments but to places, adventures and friendships.
I think that's why I love music so much and enjoy discovering new music. |

Lots of debate and waffle about such but this moves me to tears. If you can, listen to the whole piece, but it’s a long one, but this is the destination.

Thanks for the links. I see what you mean about the powerful moments. I have choral pieces similarly move me but I rarely visualise them the same way I do with orchestral pieces.
The second piece gave me visions of the Regency period and water fountains, for obvious reasons. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

The best music are the ones that evokes something in you, whether it’s a memory or simply emotions. It does so for me too. I don’t visualise music that is sung; it’s mostly the instrumental ones. It can feel like an out-of-body experience. |

All the time, certain songs trigger experiences, moments and memories that can linger between the stimulation of the aural senses and distant recollection.
Sometimes bittersweet, others with fondness, though usually with a certain measure of surprise. Especially with my Spotify algorithm.

My mind doesn't do pictures at all, but I do hear music in my head most of the time. Sometimes my brain will sing me a completely different one to the song I'm listening to on the radio at the time
