Somewhere In The Ether…

Lethonomia: We’ve all experienced this unfortunate phenomenon at some point;

There you are, speaking to someone when a sudden panic sweeps over you as the realisation dawns upon you that even though you are familiar with the person in question (and in some cases, may even have known them for years in fact), you suddenly just can’t for the life of you, recall their bloody name!

Yep, a very real brain fart!

Good folks: Pray do share your most embarrassing moments in relation to the above.

Did you attempt to employ any impromptu, cunning strategy to inveigle them to reveal their designated identity to you?

If the above plan failed, did you even remember who the hell they were afterwards?

And finally, I’ll be awarding special bonus points to any one of you who have managed to actually forget a partner’s or else a close member of your family’s name(!!!)

I’m terrible for forgetting peoples names, I try and give a personal nickname to someone if I get on with them enough but general people I’ll apologise and say I’m bad with names just as a way of them reminding me

.

Yep. The most embarrassing moment was introducing a partner to a friend at a social a couple of months ago.

I panicked. Couldn't remember their name. So I lied and said "oh, I'm not sure what to call you, your real name or your fab name?" and luckily they said their real name. I am not a good friend after tequila. At all.

I usually just stare blankly at them until they say their name then apologise

Somewhere In The Ether…

I have found that I often tend to talk inane gibberish as a stalling tactic and to bide time whilst I desperately wrestle with my cerebrum in a vain hope of summoning the persons name from my memory banks….

I’m great with names but terrible at remembering the gender of other people’s babies. The amount of times I’ve had to blag my way through conversations about someone’s child is ridiculous.

This happens to me all the time, but worse still is trying to reciprocate the conversation they instigated with no bloody idea of who they are or how they know me. All through this embarrassing event, I am wondering if they have mistaken me for someone else entirely.

I was manning an exhibition a number of years ago and one of the companies clients came up, greeted me by name and was chatting happily away to me, whilst my Director stood next to me like a lemon waiting to be introduced. I could not for the life of me remember his name, but was willing my Director to say how rude I had been by not introducing her, giving her name and then the chap would have responded. She never did that and stood there the whole time. Once the guy had left she lambasted me for being so rude and not introducing her. (I accept I could have apologised to him, introduced my Director and said sorry I had forgotten his name, but I was hoping he would say something that would jog my memory and it got more and more embarassing the longer it went on)
