Somewhere In The Ether…

…..that you have yet had to learn in life.

Good folks what is it?

It could be something physical (learning to read, tie shoe laces, swim etc.) or else something more intangible (relationships etc).

Thinking caps on everyone

Language- Spanish, it just doesn’t sink in, I can’t retain it.

Practically- Guitar was hard/is still hard as I’m starting to move from chords to solos, these fingers prefer to move slowly

Life - you can love someone as much as you want, there’s no guarantee they will give it back.

Shit happens, suffering and death occurs to good people (and children) - so life isn't fair, those who are evil and deserve bad things to happen to them do not necessarily get punished in this life, there is no such thing as karma.

To quote Edmund Blackadder: "But you know Baldrick, the world isn’t

fair. If it was, things like this wouldn’t happen would they? (hits

Baldrick around the back of the head)"

That no matter how hard you work or try it does not guarantee the result you want

There are people out there who will deliberately go out of their way to cause you problems no matter what you do.

To be happy in your self. As the one and only RuPual says If you can't love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?

Damn, I thought that was going to be darker...along the lins of no matter how dark things are and how deep the hole is that you feel you are in, remember things can get a lot worse.

However, the alternative unhelpful comment from my mother would have been, "there are others who are a lot less fortunate than you" - which never made me feel better about the situation I was in!

Somewhere In The Ether…

I can recall a number of things that stand out for me, as being a real struggle to comprehend.

One was learning to tell the time on an analog clock face.

The big hand…the little hand….the second hand….and all those little increments between the numbers!

That people on the whole will let you down, betray you and take everything they can from you in the most painful way possible.

But that there are some beautiful souls in the world.

I didn't learn to swim until I was 32 and my 10 year old niece taught me to just roll onto my back and take a deep breath if I get into difficulty. Why did no one teach me that when I nearly drowned in the school swimming pool?

Not to be so hard on myself.

I've failed to learn pretty much any practical DIY-type skills, but to fair I've not really tried to and don't think I'll start now.

I would like to be a more accomplished BBQer and gardener, but will continue to work on those key life skills.

Not everyone has a good heart, Doesn't matter how nice or caring you are they will betray you or forget about you in the end. But no matter what don't ever change or let them make you bitter, Because good people exist too.

To try not to sweat the small stuff - overthinking has been a huge issue for me all my life a mixture of an absent father and unanswered questions have probably lead to this.

I am far better at rationalising but it’s a process and one I didn’t realise I needed to go through till much later than I should.

However I am moving forward and see changes in my way of thinking massively helped by exercise, meditation and a very supportive and understanding partner, small steps but big changes

Long division took me ages to crack as a kid. I just couldn't understand it and that felt rubbish. I promptly forgot it as soon as I left school.

As an adult it's been that whole self-compassion malarkey. Definitely a work in progress.

That you never really know what's going on with people.

I got blindsided twice, one was a relationship ending. The other was someone taking their life

It can be wonderful and random. I spent a night in hospital this week and since then thinking how many of the people around me had their lives changed that day.
