"Thriller - Michael Jackson. Directed by John Landis no less
I was going to say that list starts and ends with this! "
Meh! was just an exercise in having far too much money and ego
"Anything directed by Michel Gondry but especially this 'Let Forever Be' by Chemical Brothers."
Now you're talking- man is a genius and the editing in this, and some of his others (Lucas with the lid off, Massive Attack- Protection, White Stripes- Fell in love with a girl or Cibo Matto- Sugar Water)- but i'd rate Star Guitar above it (actually, i'd also rate Kylie- Come in to my world above it too as the choreography of the action and the Milo camera rig is unreal!) ...just because its that subtle some people just won't notice whats happening until the track is nearly over- the post production work is just exquisite and the video only gets better when you watch 'star guitar with fruit' on YouTube, with MG showing how he convinced them that it would work.
That said, as brilliant as he is, i've yet to see anything better than Bjork- All is full of love. Its breathtakingly beautiful, the lighting is absolute perfection, the effects work delicious, camera work and editing supreme and the whole thing delivers on the core rules of promo production- make the visuals a perfect 50/50 balance with the audio...and in this case the visuals also sit perfectly with the lyrics, wrapping them up like a cozy, loving hug with a big fluffy blanket.
What really blows your mind is the director, Chris Cunningham, designed and built a lot of the robotics in it- he's a fucking god and much missed in the promo and film world.
I was tempted to pick one of the OK Go! videos though- but as the question is for best music video and not best music video act, cos OK GO! wipe the floor with everyone else to their dedication to visual brilliance to compliment their music |

Aww, shame you removed... I saw him live around 10yrs ago. He was battered, and didn't have his wind!.. But the turn out with costumes & face paints was still strong! |

"defy you" by the offspring.
It's early 2000's but the video is way ahead of its time (looks good today) and almost feels like a teen/comedy from that time period.
Great song to. |

London/Essex... ish... Romford to be exact |
I enjoy watching Smooth Criminal more, although Thriller was the more iconic video. It's a shame music videos have become relics. Like so many things nowadays, you have to appreciate them in a cultural vacuum. |

Little Piece of Heaven by A7X, it's dark but the animation is cool and tells the story well.
It's Gonna Be Me by Nsync is great fun, cheesy as Hell, and very creative.
Britney Spears' video for Slumber Party is just really sexy and well choreographed.
Marilyn Manson's Long Hard Road Out of Hell is great, beautiful imagery amidst the creepy, as expected. |
