How long have you gone without sleep

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

The record is 11 days and 24 mins held by randy gardner in the early 60s,a famous DJ in the 50s did over 8 days live on air (Peter tripp),but suffered greatly because of it and became mentally ill and paranoid

How long have you stayed awake for? Did you do it on purpose? Was it involuntary?

I remember when I was in Australia a guy told me a lot of truck drivers took amphetamines to stay awake and drive more hours to earn more cash, sometimes go days without sleep, wow

Think the most I've gone is 4 or 5 days. With my mental health problems it can be a common problem for me. Its awful I can't do anything and I start to get psychotic which isn't very nice.

Luckily I haven't gone that long for a while now and do manage to get a few hours each night.

At what point can you call it sleep in hours as I've managed roughly 14 days with odd 30 minutes to an hour insomnia is my friend

Just over the 39 hour mark. Took a couple weeks to recover after that.

Lack of sleep is a serious problem, very dangerous.

2 to 3 days/nights when my babies were born, but I was lucky to have help so could catch up now and again.

as I age I cope less with lack of sleep. my need for 8 hours as a minimum in 24 has become very important to me.

If I don't get good sleep I turn monster very quickly.

About 86 hours, first wave of covid, managing a care home. All I can say, energy drink and pro plus were my friends. The 86 hours of no sleep became a regular occurrence unfortunately.

My eldest child is profoundly disabled, he has NEVER slept for more than 4 hours at a time.....

I've been awake since about 2013 when he was born.

It's not unusual for me to do 24hrs at a time.

Regularly 3 days when I was in late teens/early 20’s and doing a lot of clubbing.

I’m recent years 3/4 days due to Mh nonsense, not fun at all! What then happens is I sleep for about 10/12 hours non stop. Then I’m back to my usual level of insomnia of maybe 6 hours total of a night not all in one go.

My heart genuinely goes out to anyone else who suffers either short or long term it sucks!

About 70 hours. Was working 12 hour shifts at the time and a colleague was pretty badly injured in an accident. I was doing my shift then covering his and also helping to look after him as it was a remote worksite. Everything had to keep running until help arrived. Very scary time.

I remember being awake for 26 hours on a ward being induced with my last child. I also remember how I couldn't stay awake straight after having said child too.

Maybe longer with my first.

No sleep at all? About 3 days. I had pretty severe insomnia a few years back and it was the norm for me. I'd also regularly go a week or two where I'd have 2/3 hours sleep a night then I'd just crash randomly and sleep for 5/6 hours straight before the pattern repeated. It was hell and thankfully mostly under control now.

Just over 54 hours, was during one of the lockdowns, got to leave the floor for couple hours rest, but didn't manage to get any sleep. Got very surreal, not safe at all and hope never have to do it again.

North West

About 38-40hrs, involving driving down to Worcester from Greater Manchester at the behest of the police; sitting with my Dad in A&E; finding food and a room (during a lockdown) and then working remotely on student results day and keeping tabs on my father. I was too knackered to drive straight back to Dad's house on Merseyside, hence trying to find a hotel (needed to be twin room, wheelchair accessible - not easy!)
