Scientists from Copenhagen which is listed as one of the ten most expensive cities to visit believe that every single person with blue eyes is descended from just one person who developed a mutant eye gene which first made blue eyes. On this logic is every blue eyed person a mutant? It's all over the news

Evolution IS borne from mutations so by that logic everyone is a mutant but that doesn't sound as interesting.

So as someone with blue eyes then, yes agreed. I am a mutant.

Mutations are passed on to subsequent generations. Hence constitute a mechanism of evolution.

I believe you are referring to the phenotypical expression of an organism.

Yes, every blue eyed person is a mutant. Me included.

Everyone who can digest milk as an adult is a mutant too. On that measure, I am not a mutant.

We're all mutants to a greater or lesser extent. No-one has identical DNA sequences to "original" Homo sapiens.

Evolution occurs due to mutations. Mutants who acquire a phenotype that make them "fitter" will have more offspring, who inherit these mutations and eventually might become the majority of the population, e.g. blue eyed people in Scandinavia.

Humans have evolved over millions of years from the days when dinosaurs hunted us and we found ever more resilient ways to survive. Early Humans invented fire and learned that they could hunt some dinosaurs with weapons and use fire to cook and eat them hence keeping warm.

Galaxy Far Far Away

Did you know...and I was aware of this but had to find the science...

People with blue eyes don't actually have blue-colored pigment. The iris only looks blue because of the way light reflects. An eye with less melanin absorbs less light. Collagen fibers in the eye scatter the light, and it reflects off of the surroundings, making eyes appear blue

It's just how different wavelengths of light diffract and reflect in the pigment.

Blue and green eyes are not a different colour. They're just observed as different to brown eyes because the mutations cause less pigment to be produced. Blue eyes is a near absence of pigment. Green/hazel eyes have slightly more pigment than blue, but less than brown. The only actual eye pigment colour is brown.

The observed colour is a result of how visible light is reflected/absorbed and refracted before entering the observers eye.

My super light blue eyes mean I have little eye pigment and therefore more light enters my eye than Mr KC, who has brown eyes. I can't keep my eyes open in even mild sunlight, I need sunglasses, whereas Mr KC and our daughter don't feel the need for sunglasses unless the light is much brighter.

Ditto with other human pigments - all skin pigment is brown, we just have more or less of it. Hair pigment is all brown APART FROM the ginger haired people. Blonde hair is just shades less brown than brown hair (colour due to observed light again). Grey/white hair is loss of pigment so that the hair fibres are colourless, but observed as white due to the visible light spectrum.

Humans have amassed billions of mutations, including some acquired from similar near relatives that we mated with, including Neanderthals. Last I heard, it was estimated that the mutation was likely near or around the Middle East area. And it wasn't that long ago, like within 2-10,000 years ago.

I think it's been viewed as a positive mutation, hence its successful proliferation

Mutation is changes in DNA sequence, evaluation is long process, due to temperature difference on earth people have different skin colour, it happened to adapt and survive not mutation.

The answer is that the egg came first. Pretty much all eggs, in all animals are the same basic design and function. The only difference is if eggs have hard or soft outer coatings and the colour of them (if externally laid eggs). There wasn't a random chicken that suddenly popped out of the the egg of a totally different ancestor bird.

Evolution is as a result of accumulated mutations. This is simple biological fact.

So are you negating Darwin's theory? From where eggs came without chicken papa and mum , let me share you one more example not fictional, hill peoples have bigger lungs compare to others who leaves on plain, it is not because of mutation, rather evolution, due to fact that oxygen level is low on mountain and to survive people need bigger lungs to accumulate more oxygens, now give one convincing example of your theory

That isn't evolution, that's adaptation to imposed demands, like people who pick up heavy things have stronger muscles.

Darwin didn't have a clue about DNA mutations when he wrote "On The Origin of Species".

Darwinian evolution occurs because of accumulated mutations in an organism, that renders it "fitter" than the non-mutant for that specific characteristic. Darwin's finches are an example of where mutations for beak shape enabled different finches to survive and reproduce on the various Galápagos Islands.

Fitness in biology can be summed up in the ability of an organism to successfully produce offspring.

Science isn't "Big Important Man Say Thing, now we all obey forever."

Darwin's theory has explanatory power that's been built upon.

If you want unquestioning following of big important man, try religion.
