Have decided to quit smoking after having a chest infection that has lasted all through december 2 courses of anti biotics and a course of steroids i am just starting to feel better, butits so hard, know I have the will power after loosing 4 and half stone in last year, really worried I could put it back on plus its so hard trying to pack the evil in.
Bought one of those electronic cigarettes with refills, Just wanted advice if anyone has used one of these and if they really do work?

Jules, I gave up last September after having enough of it, but having failed before I tried a different approach. I smoked 6 Superkings in a row and almost puked all over the garage. Not had one since, only felt the urge a couple of times. It seems to have worked. No patches, champex etc. My _iew is you give up smoking you give up the nicotine as well. Like a bandaid, just rip it off! You can do it! BTW I was a 20 a day chap.
Good Luck

must of tried 1000 times in the past but failed miserably every time.still requires a certain amount of willpower but if i can do it, anyone can ! good luck |

Fairly sure there's been a few people on here use the e-cigs, seem to remember some responses...if no-one's online to respond, do a forum search and see if you can find anything on the previous threads. I used champix, been off them over 2 years, but recently been having the odd one when with friends who smoke (and having a drink), does occasionally cross my mind now and then, but to be honest I can't see me ever starting back on 20 a day as even when I do have one, I'm not enjoying it - think it's just to remind meself how bloody awful they are. Best of luck xxx |

I found the electric cigarettes pointless, whilst one is smoking something better than a cigarette, because they are very strong and similar taste to a cigarette, I felt I would be substituting one for another so a pointless waste of money |

The patches really help you if you follow the step by step guide but your will power will be tested, using the electronic ciggie will help stop the immediate cravings but you have to remember your not actually shaking the addiction to nicotine, your just stopping the habit of sparking one up. Smoking is a mind battle...routines etc so try to stop the one after a meal or as soon as you wake up.
Considering your circumstances the electronic one would be good as to allow your chest to heal properly then you could concentrate on really giving up once feeling 100%
Hope that helps |

be careful Caz, you could fall into the subtle trap of having the odd social fag now and again thinking that your ok cos your not enjoying it and all the time your addiction is coming back!!
sorry hun, don't mean to lecture or patronize you!!! x |

Careful Caz that's exactly what I did. Gave up for 15 years. Then had the occasional one couple times a year, telling myself I could never properly smoke again. Next thing I know back on 20 a day again for 4 years ! Been clean again for 9 months now.
OP there are different qualities of the electronic ones. If you get a decent one you will hardly tell the difference to a proper one. Your obviously not breaking the nicotine addiction. But you won't be sucking all the poison in either. Good luck |

Yeah the Lassie uses one - she's been off the fags for just over 2 weeks and the electronic fag is doing the trick. She bought hers at the CooP and gets the refills from there as well .. |

Thanks Ryan and Sexy Fireman...yeah, been there, done that...this is the longest I've stayed off them (smoker since age 13, given up probably 11 or 12 times over the past 30 odd years) Even though I'd been having the odd one, when I went on hols last year with my chain-smoking mate, I wasn't at all bothered (though she smokes menthol *shudders*), think it just very much depends on my mood and who I'm with, but I do know what you mean - if it gets to the point where I want to buy a packet, I'll probably have to chop me hands off |

Yeah, quitting is easy, I've done it loads of times.
Whatever you do, don't tell anyone, you will instantly be offered enough cigarettes to open a tobacconists...
Not BUYING any is the trick.
Calculating how many days / weeks you could instead afford a 46" telly or six month's road tax helps too.

Good luck with giving up,hope you succeed.
I gave up 16 years ago due bad health chronic coughing fits.
When temptation was bad i used nicorrete gum.
Took about 1 year to fully not think of having a fag
But worth it in the end, although i have put weight on |
